Have you heard about the "tanning mom" yet? Patricia Krentcil of New Jersey has been accused of taking her 6-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, causing skin burns ... but she says she's innocent and her critics are "jealous."

tanning mom

"I'm innocent and it's proven... I would never -- never -- put my daughter in a tanning booth. We go out shopping. That's what we do," Krentcil told TMZ on Thursday. "Any mother that makes an accusation about me is not a mother, because I'm a great mother and I would never do that to my child." When asked by TMZ if she's the target of a witch hunt, Krentcil replied: "Yes. Yes. There's somebody out there on my whole life that doesn't like me because they're jealous, they're fat and they're ugly."

Krentcil does have some people on her side, though. The owner of City Tropics Salon in Nutley said employees who were there that day told him the girl remained outside with her father and brother and didn't go into the tanning booth while Krentcil was inside, CBS and The Associated Press report. New Jersey state law prohibits anyone under 14 from using a tanning salon.

Krentcil, who faces a second-degree child endangerment charge, pleaded not guilty in Newark Municipal Court on Wednesday morning; she's now free on a $2,500 cash bond. Police told The Nutley Sun newspaper they were called to the child's school April 24 because the kindergartner was in pain from a "pretty severe sunburn," and that she was complaining of itching, saying she had been to a tanning salon with her mom. Krentcil says her little girl got a sunburn from being outside on a warm day.

If this woman keeps it up, the really sad thing is, the little girl will be burying her before too long.

I think its human nature to be very judgmental to those who are different and even though this woman is different because she chose to spend too long tanning i don't think that alone makes her a bad mum. i don't really know the whole story, only what sodahead tells me but i don't think she took her daughter in the tanning bed and people are jumping on her because she is a little unsightly. i don't think people are jealous of her though

this woman is not believable.. she has zero credibility because she shows she has no reasoning power.. she is incapable of making good decisions in her life ..or she would look differently, therefore I think she also cannot make good decisions for her child. Where is the father by the way??

If I could just intervene one more time - the photo above is from the CBS video. I don't know where the truth lies with her because I googled the story and this photo came off from another CBS site. It's this woman coming out of the court house after she was arraigned. Check it out for yourself... Tanner

The father supports the mother and her tanning and claims the child did not enter the booth.
Ain't she one purdy mom, SunShine? Yikes.

Why would anyone be jealous of her? She has screwed up her skin which she will really regret as she gets older. I think she may be telling the truth about the child not being in there with her. I think those places have strict policies about who can be in there and only one is allowed at a time. But I might be wrong,

This woman is hideous. That doesn't look like a tan, and I've never seen anybody with a tan - even a really deep tan who looks like her. As for her little girl, my son had hair about her color - he was red headed. His father took him when he was a little boy for a week because his mother (my son's grandmother) wanted to send him to a church camp. I had no problem with that, but I do have some idea of what goes on at camp and how much the kids are outdoors. I warned my ex to be careful with him as he was very, very fair skinned and burned easily - to be sure he had sun screen on him at all times, yada yada yada. Might as well have talked to the wall. He dismissed me as overprotective and brought my son home with huge blisters raised up all over his back. This child in this picture reminds me of my little boy - same kind of skin. She has no business even being in the sun let alone a tanning booth.

Good grief! Look at her! If she was fat, she could loose weight. If she was ugly she could get a face augmentation. But she is clearly mentally ill!

Jealous? Hardly,I wouldn't want to look like I was just baked, and even so,if she wants to look hideous and get cancer that's fine, but she shouldn't endanger her child. They asked her child where her burns came from and she said "when her and mommy went tanning"now why would she say that if it wasn't true? No good mother would take their young child to a tanning salon. And on top of that, the tanning salon didn't even know her child was in there with her. I hate that woman, poor kid.And she is NOT beautiful

Okay - let me try this again... What I think I said before I was taken aside to sign up for a sodahead account was... Obviously this woman does not see herself the way others see her. It's almost like he way anorexics think they look fat, etc. I'm sure she is sitting at her computer, and just loving her image as it radiates (literally) off the screen. She is on a one-way trip to the Sloane-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center Advanced Melanoma Dept. Sad that this woman wants to check out so early in life, especially with such a young beautiful daughter who will lose a mother for the sake of such skewed vanity. That girl deserves a mother, not a well-done roast.

Okay - let me just reply to my own message above... I just went on the CBS news site to see the video they shot of this woman. In the video, her face was even worse at times than the picture above, which, not surprisingly, was taken from that video. Having said that, I checked out photos of her coming out of the court house and again when she was on the sidewalk, and in those photos her face looked tanned... not burned. It was at least 30 shades lighter. In the CBS video, she looked like Al Jolson in blackface (anyone under 50 can google that and cringe at how shallow people were before blackface became taboo, thank God...). So I have to wonder what that face REALLY looks like. I want to be fair about this. Thanks all. Tanner

I believe that she believes it. This chick is not right & her kid needs to be put in a safe place immediately. Her face looks like one of those mummified, 500-year old Incan soldiers they find occasionally way up in the Inca Mountains.

Only because I couldn't believe anything Krentcil says. If her daughter says she was in a tanning booth I'd believe her. However if a tanning salon knowingly let that little girl in a booth they should be shut down. These things aren't safe for adults beyond occasional use.

I saw this idiot on the news making these comments. She was either drunk, drugged, or in addition to her face her brain is fried. My big question is what the ---- is her husband like?

I seriously doubt any legitimate tanning salon would knowingly allow a 6 year old to use a booth. They could face criminal charges and lawsuits. But if you believe everything above, which may very well be true, the girl didn't go in the booth that day. Who knows what really happened.

She apparently went to the salon with her mother on the day she got burned. Whether she went in is unknown to us. With her complexion the daughter would burn quickly in moderately strong sunlight. If she was waiting in the car, with sun on her face coming through glass, burning wouldn't take long. Depending on the phrasing of the girl's questioning she could have been led on to say she went in. She was likely nervous so she might have said what she thought the questioner wanted to hear.

If I hadn't seen the newscast I might be siding with her mother based on what others said. But Krentcil, for whatever reason, appeared mentally impaired. I would have a hard time believing anything questionable she said.

That is amazing! And of course any tanning salon is going to turn away a potential profit... she must have made that salon very rich! That is just totally amazing. LIke someone else said, she looked like a totally different race.. What a contrast between her complexion and her daughter's complexion. Poor kid. personally, I doubt if 2500 will stop her. And isn't it interesting how addiction is so deceptive to the person who is addicted.. she probably thinks she looks pale. The daughter is the winner in this photo... Poor kid red hair and so fair... she was truly in danger... her fair complexion should be taken into consideration... when it comes to fines.....

Okay, so her daughter doesn't look as if she's set foot inside a tanning booth, so I believe her on that count. However, nobody's jealous of her. That's just ludicrous.
