'Tanning Mom' Says She's Innocent and Critics Are 'Jealous': Believe Her?

Have you heard about the "tanning mom" yet? Patricia Krentcil of New Jersey has been accused of taking her 6-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, causing skin burns ... but she says she's innocent and her critics are "jealous."

"I'm innocent and it's proven... I would never -- never -- put my daughter in a tanning booth. We go out shopping. That's what we do," Krentcil told TMZ on Thursday. "Any mother that makes an accusation about me is not a mother, because I'm a great mother and I would never do that to my child." When asked by TMZ if she's the target of a witch hunt, Krentcil replied: "Yes. Yes. There's somebody out there on my whole life that doesn't like me because they're jealous, they're fat and they're ugly."

Krentcil does have some people on her side, though. The owner of City Tropics Salon in Nutley said employees who were there that day told him the girl remained outside with her father and brother and didn't go into the tanning booth while Krentcil was inside, CBS and The Associated Press report. New Jersey state law prohibits anyone under 14 from using a tanning salon.

Krentcil, who faces a second-degree child endangerment charge, pleaded not guilty in Newark Municipal Court on Wednesday morning; she's now free on a $2,500 cash bond. Police told The Nutley Sun newspaper they were called to the child's school April 24 because the kindergartner was in pain from a "pretty severe sunburn," and that she was complaining of itching, saying she had been to a tanning salon with her mom. Krentcil says her little girl got a sunburn from being outside on a warm day.

She may very well be innocent (employees at the tanning salon also vouched for her) but I am pretty sure the emotion her critics are experiencing is NOT jealously, lol

I think the tanning bed has done something to her brain. Not only did it bake her skin it went deeper down to her inner core. What person in their right mind would think a tan that deep would look good on anybody???

I'm sorry, but her looks shouldn't be up for debate. People can dress and look how they desire (obviously not in all cultures). However, she is lucky she lives in a western culture where tanning is acceptable. She might like the way she looks. She might be mentally unstable. We don't really know. All we are given is a couple of photos of an overly bronzed woman and thats all. What if this was you who was being brutally attacked by the world and media? Not very nice.

Please take a look at her from earlier the same say when she was outside the courtroom... I think that photo above, taken from the CBS News interview is touched up to the point of ridiculous in order to make "news." This picture is also from a CBS source, minus the camera filters, etc. I say shame on CBS.

Her kid is as pale as my white ass! The mom needs rehab though, although jail time might just be the best thing for her skin. It's funny that she thinks people are jealous of her. I'd take a fat pale chick who has her head on straight any day before I'd bat an eye at her....a normal eye that is.

I believe she believes what she said. I think she is mentally ill and is incapable of reasonable thinking. Her statement that people are jealous of her because they are fat and ugly pretty much points to the fact that she is a very deluded person.

She is probably confrontational in her dealings with other people and then they react negatively to her and she perceives it as jealousy.

As Joe Walsh from The Eagles once titled an album.....You can't argue with a sick mind.

this mother looks like she has an illness, if you haven't seen my strange addiction then now's the time to watch it.. but this lady will some day be cooked from the inside out. Tanning is never good for the body, but when wanting to look like a brown leather ottoman just looks wrong and disgusting.

Yes, because thats what she believes in her mixed up mind. She doesn't see herself in the mirror as someone that is destroying her skin cells and has such self hate she is trying to transform herself into something else because it certainly isn't human. And jealous? No. It's sympathy and anger because we are watching somebody happily destroy themselves and anger because a child might be endangered.Hopefully she will be turned away the next time she tries to tan.
