Traditional Southern diets may be linked to a higher risk of stroke, a researcher said at a conference on Thursday. The lead researcher, Suzanne Judd, a nutritional epidemiologist at the University of Alabama, said her study is the first large-scale effort to look at stroke and a diet of such foods as fried chicken and fish, bacon, ham and sweet teas.
“Fatty foods are high in cholesterol, sugary drinks are linked to diabetes and salty foods lead to high blood pressure,” Judd said in a statement. Those are all factors in the risk of cardiovascular disease. The research was presented at the International Stroke Conference in Hawaii.

aware that southern food, in general was necessarily bad for you.
Everyone knows what they are suppose to eat. It's okay to eat a greasy burger every once in a while, or friend catfish once a month...
Eat FRUIT, VEGGIES, SALADS, people!!!!! :)
Better to die young from good southern cooking that to live to 100 eating patchouli and smoking cannabis.
Decades back what Our grandparents and great grandparents ate was truly organic, without artificial preservatives, additives and genetically modified ingredients. It doesn't matter if you fry your chicken or bake it because that chicken had been more than likely feed genetically modified grains contaminated with pesticides and who knows what else.
The preparation of the food doesn't matter all that much when it comes from the grocery store already bad for you. And don't think that organic means it's healthier. Just because that wheat may have been grown without using pesticides doesn't mean that the wheat grain itself is not genetically altered. It doesn't mean that non-altered grains haven't been cross pollinated through natural means (For example wind blowing pollen to another field ) with genetically altered grains.
Stop listening to these scientists doing their little studies and start educating yourself on how the food you eat is being tampered with.
