Suri Cruise's $130,000 Christmas List: Rad or Ridiculous?

Suri Cruise isn't an ordinary kid -- so it should come as no big surprise that her Christmas list is more like a Hollywood starlet's than a 5-year-old girl's. The celebrity spawn of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes has a holiday wish list worth $130,000, InTouch Weekly reports. The list reportedly includes a $100,000 pony, $15,000 diamond earrings and $1,500 gowns that will make her "look like a fairy princess."

And yes, she's getting what she wants. "Tom and Katie love the holidays and always go overboard. They are buying Suri absolutely everything she asks for," a source told the magazine. Her parents reportedly want her to have a "magical time" at Christmas.

And as for her famous sense of style, Cruise says it's innate. "She was just born that way. I don't know what to say," Cruise, 49, told Us Weekly at the "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" premiere in NYC Monday. "She really creates her own outfits." She also "dresses herself," he says.

"Katie has her create things and sew and stuff like that. It's kind of amazing," Cruise said. "It's beautiful. It's really beautiful." Beautiful -- if you can afford to blow six figures on clothes she won't fit into next year.

It's more to do with her parents. It's natural to want things, but it's not a good lesson for such a young child to think she can get anything she wants.

It's more to do with her age, when these are years that determine who you are as an adult. Famous people are already susceptible to an inflated ego, but the way they're lavishing her every whim at that age is very irresponsible parenting.

Given the level of income her parents bring in, her list is not that extravagant.

They certainly aren't helping the situation. I admire alot of celebrities who do tons of charity work.

I admire them too, but if the Cruise's don't want to do it, then nobody should pressure them into doing it or judge them for not doing it. It's their decision, after all.

I agree they shouldn't be pressured, I just personally disagree with them spoiling their child when they could help alot more people with there money.

Her parents have the money, so it's really up to them. I, however, think they could still put a good portion of that money to a better cause, such as charity, and still give Suri a "magical Christmas." When I was five, I got a plastic McDonald's drive-thru thing complete with plastic McNuggets and a plastic soda. It wasn't a pony, but it still seemed pretty magical to me.

The fact that they spoil her doesn't mean she'll turn as an absolute monster. Who knows? Maybe she will be one of those good and rare people who turn out to be classy and ladylike by themselves. I hope that's her case.

It's also an expression meaning something to the effect that it just 'happens' without reason or teaching. You're 14, so it's little use bothering to explain this to you -- since you not only don't see a problem with the extravagance her parents are showering on her, but also feel the need for confrontation with those who disagree, I'm assuming your parents likely don't teach it to you either -- but you don't always get what you want. Suri is at a developmental age that determines the kind of person she will grow up to be as an adult. It is completely irresponsible the way they are raising her. And I see no way, judging by how she dresses and another commenter saying she throws tantrums (?) that there would be any evidence pointing towards a reason for her being well-rounded as an adult -- other than it just happening in spite of getting every want and desire she has as a child. And having no concept of how much it takes to earn the things she's asked for does not exactly correlate to being classy or ladylike -- unlike the shoes, dress and red lipstick she commonly wears does; but more the sense of proportion, and that she'll likely wind up a very demanding and superficial adult, among other things. In other words, I disagree. It's the makings of a very spoiled child turned adult.

I know a lot of girls who have been spoiled to death and have turned out to be really classy. What I'm implying is that there is a difference in spoiling a child and teaching her to act unclassy, read this:

THAT is what Katie and Tom are doing wrong, not spoiling her.

Neither... I'm pretty sure my 5 year old niece's christmas list is about the same... the difference is that she won't be GETTING all of that, and she knows it. Anyway, it's not her fault. Every 5 year old wants a pony, and of course she's not going to think through whether it's healthy for her to get what she wants. Most adults don't function as self-restraining as that. And for a child, it's the parents' job. I certainly wouldn't do it- but then again, I'm not her mother and really, nobody has any place to criticise what happens in another person's family, no matter how public.

What did she do to become that spoiled? Nothing! She just turned out like the kind of girl her parents raised her to be. Is that her fault?
How could you be heartless enough to insult a little girl who hasn't done anything to you or anyone else?

No matter what she gets for Christmas it will never change the fact that the poor girl has Tom Cruise for a dad.

To me the pony is a bad idea because she will not be taught to, or will, learn to take care of it.
At 5 years old this child does not need any of the things she is asking for. This would be such a good age to teach humility, and the honor of giving to the less fortunate. THAT is what Tom and Katie should be teaching her, values, and not values of monetary things, even tho they can well afford it. And that is just another reason to teach her better things because she is just a baby really with no idea about very much.....Parents teach by example, and as far as I can tell, they are not very good teachers.

Actually, some five year olds do get horses, and grow up to do rodeo. Not that I think this is Suri's intention, but a pony can still be of more use than $15,000 earrings and $1,500 gowns.
  • Muver lmnlme1... 2011/12/22 04:49:04

Yes, true about 5 yr.olds and ponys....if you live on a ranch or grow up around horses, I am pretty sure that is not the case here. I live where there are a lot of horse families, and there is a pony club for the younger set...I daughter's did this back in the day, but believe me, they learned and did all the necessary things related to having a pony....learned proper care and feeding, proper riding and care with the tack, mucked stalls, picked hooves, bathed and fed them....and care in riding, learning that animals have feelings and can be easily hurt or crippled if not ridden properly, not something I think Suri will be doing. This "want" is most likely something she will not care about in another year or so....Most girls love horses, and would like to have one....it is very fanciful.
  • lmnlme1... Muver 2011/12/22 04:59:16
    lmnlme10921
This is very true. She is probably picturing a pink, glittery creature she can ride around while wearing her "fairy princess" gowns and not an animal that depends on you to take care of it. I think it would do this girl good to pick out presents for an angel tree child, or some other activity of the sort. Maybe this will help her see how little some people want, and how much they actually need. Even easier, her parents could step back and rethink some of their child rearing techniques.
