Suppose you run over a dog or cat with your car, do you stop and move the poor creature or just keep going?

I would be sick if I didn't stop. I could never do it.

From there, it'd go in the trunk of the back of the car if it was still alive and to the closest vet or shelter.

I dont really love animals... sure i think they are cute but thats about it.
maybe i would feel guilty and i would stop but i would most likely not touch it....
    in reality i dont know
but i do hope that it will never happen...i wouldnt like to be in that situation.

Stop and see if it might still be saved and then take it to the vet. If you keep going that's a hit and run and you can be charged for negligence. Imagine if someone did that your pet.

If it's dead, move to so more cars won't run over it. If it's alive...either try to find owner, or take
    to vet.

I never have run over a dog or cat but if I did I couldn't even imagine not stopping. I wouldn't leave it there until whatever needed to be done was done.I wouldn't be able to drive for a few hours anyways. I would be too upset. I would stop no matter what kind of animal it was.I stop when an injured animal is on the road or where ever it is even if I didn't hit it. That has happened a few times and luckily there was always a happy ending.I would never let an injured animal just lay there. If I see one on the side of the road I stop also. I carry gloves and a box in my trunk just in case. I see it too often really.

Good to know there's others out there looking out for injured pets and other animals. If they are
dead, I will move them to side of road also.

Thanks. I'm glad there are people around like you too.Last year I found a bird sitting in the road. Cars were going around it and ignoring the poor thing. I'm surprised it didn't get hit again. It must of just got stunned and couldn't fly.I picked it up and put it in my car. It was chirping and the bird looked fine. I was bringing it home thinking the wings were broken. They do heal.I have saved a bird once from flying into a window and one was injured by a cat.I was almost home and the bird was fine. It started flying around in my car. I drove all the way back to where I found it and released it where it lives.I'm crazy when it comes to animals. It makes me happy when I know there are other people who do care also:):)

That was really thoughful ! Driving all the way back where you found it ! Lucky bird, especially since eventually someone would just drive over it ........ not caring. I was
driving home late one night from work and a small owl ran into my car. I kept going
about a block not knowing what hit my car, and thought I "have" to go back and at
least get it out of the road. And there was this small owl just sitting in the center
of the road. So I took it home with me and next day I turned it loose. It was fine, just
had been stunned, I guess. It sure was a neat little owl and never attemped to bit.

Yes, I love them too.........and it was so tempting to try to keep it. But I think it
was probably swooping down after a mouse when it hit my car. Glad it was ok.

Some time ago I hit a dog that dashed out into the street. I came to a screeching halt in the middle of the road, put the car in park and hopped out. The dog, a large German Shepard just stood there (yes, he got back up). He had apparently been chasing a smaller dog or cat. Of course, I start walking up to the dog (who is panting wildly and wagging his tail) and I actually start talking to the dog "Are you alright boy?" "Did I hurt you?" He was probably thinking in his little doggy brain "Is this ***** crazy or what?" He just runs off after whatever he was chasing and I got back in my car and drove away. So, yes, I stop and if the animal is still alive, I attempt to communicate with it. I also brake for really small toads. I lived in farm country at one point and when I took the back road in the summer, these little toads came out in droves; I actually drove zig zagging to avoid crushing them.....what a riot....

A kind person you are ! I rescued a fox that was sitting at the side of the road years ago. Kept it in laundry room for 2-3 days giving it water and dog food. Then when ok again, let it go.

If I ever run over a cat I'm going to brake down, right there on the road. I'm going to stop my car, get out, run over to him/her, check for life, and if it's still alive, I'd called my fiancee and ask how to get them help, but if no.....I'd probably just sit there and cry.

Yeah, I'm that affectionate over animals.

If it was a dog I'd stop if it was a cat I wouldn't. A dog is usually someone's pet a cat around here is just as likely a stray. If there's a chance it's alive I'd stop tho.
