A recent study (yeah, I know, another study stating the obvious) concludes that men want more sex than their wives. Catherine Hakim writes in The Telegraph, "...wisdom about men wanting more sex than their wives is not an unfair stereotype but a fact."

She continues to refer to studies that show the internet allows men (and women) to have affairs, which keep everyone happy. Ms. Hakim concludes, "The time has come, alongside the technology, to redraw the rules of marriage for the 21st century."

TELEGRAPH.CO.UK reports:
In an extract from her new book, the controversial sociologist says it is time to redraw marital rules -- with a radical rethink on fidelity.

That is a single study which proves nothing, people need to stop taking these 'studies' as determined fact. If someone cannot be happy being faithful to one person for the rest of their lives, then why get married in the first place? Just don't get married, stay single and then you can do whatever you like. Don't bring other people into the equation and ruin other people's lives out of your own selfishness.

Affairs are wrong, regardless of whether you are male or female. Maybe it will "satisfy you sexually" but you're completely disregarding the feelings of your partner.

This is a ridiculous question. WHY get married if you want to have affairs? Alle that brings is jealousy, bad feelings for the hurt party, maybe disease. How is that making anyone happy?

My first husband thought the grass was greener on the other side. I gave him the boot. I have no compassion for cheats. I hope for his sake the grass continued to be greener. My second husband and I have been happily married for 30+ years. Furthermore, whats wrong with lots of sex with the one you married? If it is getting boring, spice it up a bit!!

Since when is marriage about cheating? And affairs are about cheating with people who you don't care about.

Matthew Henry said, "Carnal, sensual pleasure, stupifies conscience, and puts out the sparks of conviction." WIthout conviction to one's spouse, bonds of marriage will disolve and the result will be an increase in single parent households, children with calendars as to which parent they will spend what weekend with, etc.

Perhaps instead of an obvious study like this, these researchers should start talking about the long term effects on children of broken marriages. That is tomorrow's society.

If you're ok with your partner cheating on you or you so desperately want to cheat on them, then I doubt you love them anyway
If you truly love someone, you would talk with them about the problems in the relationship instead of being a coward and cheating

And those couples where one partner is permanently incapable of sex at all due to injury or being disable?

I would say, it depends on the couple. And every pairing (or more if your bent that way) have to find out what works for them. But the number one thing they have to do is TALK.

I think itd be horrible to do that to your partner even if he or she was incapable of sex.You may not be able to have normal vaginal sex but there are other ways you know..

    Cheating is for selfish cowards.

I heard once, don't try to talk for someone unless you've walked a mile in his shoes. (yea, paraphrase of an another common quote..)

Whatever the couple decide, it's their choice. It is not ours. If they decide that it works for them, so be it. If not, so be it. But the two in question have to have open dialog or otherwise, affairs or not, the marriage is done.

Geez...someone else wants to redefine marriage?? As if we don't get enough of that from the people who want to legalize gay marriage. Actually, I wish there was a "HELL, NO" option...because that's how I feel. Not just a "No," but "OH, HELL NO!!!"

How can you you compare infidelity to gay marriage? What's wrong with gay marriage?
  • robertw... macy 2012/08/23 23:58:54
    robertwnielsen
Nothing, if you agree with it (gay marriage)--but consider that, in Iowa, for example, when the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage, three of the judges that handed down that decision were subsequently voted OFF the Iowa Supreme Court--and, when an amendment on gay marriage actually gets voted on, it loses...so evidently, there are people who disagree with gay marriage. (I don't, personally.)
