Are you a dog lover? Or do you prefer to cuddle with a kitty cat? If you picked pooches, we have good news for you: owning a dog may be good for your health.

dog cat

In a study at University of California, San Francisco, researchers found that house dust from homes with dogs helped protect against a common cold strain, the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV.) And now scientists are saying this could apply to kids, too, ABC News reports.

RSV can be severe and even fatal in premature and chronically ill infants, and it is associated with increased risk of developing asthma, ABC reports. The new study adds credence to the theory that exposure to animals early in life helps "train" the immune system, and prevent kids from getting asthma. Having a dog has also been linked to better cardiovascular health, reduced anxiety and loneliness and other health benefits. So ... do you prefer dogs? Or cats?

If you look above you will see my reply which covers what you have said.
I`m sure the animals in a shelter were in need of proper care so they would smell etc.
If you care for your dog properly you will have no problems.

I love cats but I'm allergic. And I haven't met a dog yet that didn't want to be friends!

I worked at the local animal shelter and there were many that were not friendly or compatible with humans of any kind.

Probably because they`d been mistreated + not cared for. Dogs can be such faithful wonderful family pets.

I have 2 dogs myself and am very familiar with dogs in general. I was just responding to the comment on all dogs being friends. When statistics do not justify that statement.

I agree with you, some dogs do have a bad nature. Many do get into the wrong hands. A lot of young people here in the UK have ferocious looking dogs, they strut around with these dogs in quite a threatening manner trying to look tough. I go the other way if i see any like that when i`m out with my dog. Coming out of a supermarket recently there were 2 Staffordshire bull terriers tied up outside, they looked so thin, when the owners came out with their bags of shopping the dogs grabbed the bags + tore into a loaf of bread !!, they looked ravenous, it was quite a pitiful sight. They could have easily grabbed something a child was eating or someone else`s shopping. When these Staff`s get their jaws around something they can do a lot of damage, they don`t let go !!.

There are lots of abused dogs around and that does affects their behavior. That is why Pit Bulls have got such a bad name as well. It has nothing to do with any breed, but the people who mistreat them.

Best friends through thick and thin. Dogs are there for you, it's an incredible bond you can have with someone who doesn't speak English. There is NOTHING like the bond between a person and their dog! kid and dog

I'm not trying to scare anyone. You must be a piece of work in real-life.

Eventually we'll all find out on a singular basis whether our beliefs were factually true.

And pay the consequences for them. One way or another.
  • Muskoka CUDDLY ... 2012/07/01 16:51:46

Paying consequences to your god is like paying consequences to the tooth fairly or Spiderman. Christians use their religious ideology to make threats just like you did repeatedly to non christians repeatedly. It is the most pathetic part of you belief system and you seem to think that it makes a difference to those of us your believe in reality rather than superstition and magic.

Get over yourself and lets hope that some day someone will save us all from christianity.

That is simply the most riduculous comment ever.

Cats are the only domesticated animal that can survive on its own in the wild. That is more intelligent than any other domestic animal alive today.

Simply because they are not the type to be dominated and be seduced by a carrot on a stick has nothing to do with intelligence.

Apparently you are looking for a slave and not a companion.

Every once in a while you'll run across an effectionate cat, but most often, they don't want anything to do with you unless they're hungry or need a scratch.

I have had cats for over 50 years and you are dead wrong. I have been a breeder for over 30 years as well.

I have huge issues with trying to keep my cats off of me. They greet me at the door every day when I get home. They sit on my desk when I am working, they sit on my keyboard when I work at my computer, one is around my neck, one is on my lap and on is on the chair beside me. The same thing happens when I watch tv and we all sleep together with the dogs on the same bed at night.

You should also go and read the comments from the other cat owners here. They are all saying the exact same thing. Cats demand affections and attention and give it back.

Prefer dogs. I've always had multiple cats around and they're still my babies but they don't entertain me as much as my dogs. Having cats around is like having roommates you feed and clean up after. I wouldn't give it up for anything but I can't say I prefer them.,yet I wouldn't want them gone either.

Most people don't train their cats, but they do take time to train their dogs. I have seen cats in talent shows and they can be trained, people just don't normally do it.
