Are you a dog lover? Or do you prefer to cuddle with a kitty cat? If you picked pooches, we have good news for you: owning a dog may be good for your health.

dog cat

In a study at University of California, San Francisco, researchers found that house dust from homes with dogs helped protect against a common cold strain, the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV.) And now scientists are saying this could apply to kids, too, ABC News reports.

RSV can be severe and even fatal in premature and chronically ill infants, and it is associated with increased risk of developing asthma, ABC reports. The new study adds credence to the theory that exposure to animals early in life helps "train" the immune system, and prevent kids from getting asthma. Having a dog has also been linked to better cardiovascular health, reduced anxiety and loneliness and other health benefits. So ... do you prefer dogs? Or cats?

Dogs bring security (I have 4 dogs guarding my house, black Lab, German Sheppard, and 2 Pit Bulls).

Cats are selfish little creatures with no loyalty, if they walk into another house and find a owner that feeds them better food they stay, ungreatful little pricks.

Dogs, love you more than they love themselves.

I have had a German Sheppard (Shane). One I was given from Kaman Aircraft. Who raised sheppards for seeing eye dogs). Full grown--weighed 138 and you could see his rib cage. He was also 3 inches higher and longer than a normal sheppard. I also had a Dobie, Westie, cocker poo and mongrels. I had cats that would let me know when a deer crossed my property. The dogs didn't even raise there head. You obviously have not had a cat who was loyal, I have had many. When I lost the Shane, his buddy a cat, wouldn't eat for almost a week and cried, sitting in Shane's bed. It took him months to get over the loss of his friend. Soooo, you really don't know cats at all.

I have never heard of anyone having any kind of guard cat, so I would have to assume you are lying.
I am trying to get my hands on a lion (sounds crazy yes, but I love exotic animals), I am sure they would make for great security and I am sure I can learn a thing or two about cats from them.

I an not a lire and take offense to such language. I have had 2 cats---Clawed(a feral cat the boys at work caught for me, who is now 14), No one comes around the house without out him growling. My tonkaneese, would run to windows, when there was something in the yard. A cat has a much sharper sense than a dog. Obviously you don't want to see beyond your dogs.

Dogs hear things up to 100 times as loud as humans, and they react to intruders, even when they are not trained.
I have never seen a cat react to an intruder or visitor until they have invaded its personal space, I dont know where you would train a cat.

    Your point?

I'm not comparing dogs and human hearing, I'm comparing dogs and cats. Why don't you contact The Animal hospital of Putnam. I also leash trained my cats as I got them as far back as the seventies. The hospital can verify that. Also the The Angell Memorial of Boston (one of the most famous small animal hospitals in the world) can verify the intelligence of the Tonkaneese I had. Unless you have dogs that are part wolf or cyote, they do not have that natural instinct as a cat does. Cats will always be part feral. Let me add a few more comments. A cat will only eat what it feels it needs, it will not stuff itself. A cat will not eat food which is bad. A dog will gouge itself, WILL eat bad food if it's hungry. One more comment==you will never see a cat eat dog's or other poo. A dog WILL eat cats poo or other poo, where's the intelligence there---YOUR POINT==

I must admit, I do like the sound of training cats, perhaps they hold great potential that I missed.

My point is still that dogs prove to be much more of a aid in a regular home, if cats are beneficial to there owners, awareness needs to be increased.

My guess you have not had a cat. The are also very sensitive to intruders and very loyal as well. Cats are much more particular about food that dogs are. The majority of dogs will eat almost anything.

I have had several, they avoid there owners and only come to them when they are looking to be petted, they do not answer to my calls, they do not respond in anyway to intruders, as you said they are much more particular about food which in no way benefits me, and they sit around doing weird things with there legs?

They are a luxoury* pet and nothing else.

Sorry, I have been a breeder and mine are constantly all over me and I find it difficult to work on my computer as they are laying all over my desk, sitting on the keyboard, laying around my neck, and one on my lap all at the same time. They also all sleep with me at night as well. They all watch tv with me on the sofa and all have designated places where they all sit and cuddle.

They are also right at the door when I come home every night alone with the dogs. So, you have obviously not been used to what normal cats are like. Read the other comments from other cat owner and you will see that we all have the same experience.
