Are you a dog lover? Or do you prefer to cuddle with a kitty cat? If you picked pooches, we have good news for you: owning a dog may be good for your health.

dog cat

In a study at University of California, San Francisco, researchers found that house dust from homes with dogs helped protect against a common cold strain, the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV.) And now scientists are saying this could apply to kids, too, ABC News reports.

RSV can be severe and even fatal in premature and chronically ill infants, and it is associated with increased risk of developing asthma, ABC reports. The new study adds credence to the theory that exposure to animals early in life helps "train" the immune system, and prevent kids from getting asthma. Having a dog has also been linked to better cardiovascular health, reduced anxiety and loneliness and other health benefits. So ... do you prefer dogs? Or cats?

I've never had a cat in my life. To me they are moody, stand offish and have very little personality. Actually I don't like them. Dogs on the other hand greet you when you come in the door, comfort you when you're upset and entertain you with their talents. Yep it's dogs for me.
Just this AM I opened the door for the paper to be greeted by a fat cat in my front yard. I shooed it out immediately. The thing should have been on a leash. Ick.

    Now which would you choose???

You've never owned a cat with personality. I had cats who would greet me at the door when I came home from work. As for talent, they can entertain more than dogs. I should know I've owned both all my life. Read my other coments. As for choosing--as I've said, you've never seen a cat with personality. I certainly hope you didn't hurt that cat in the picture you show.

I love both dogs and cats--all animals...My kitty is a lovey-dovey, talkative bird-chaser, and outsmarts all the neighborhood dogs.

I have both, too, and dogs slobber, especially if they've just drunk some water.

A cat you have to show them the litter box only once, and they get it.
    A dog...not so much.

cats rule! dogs need to be trained, and taken out for walks. They aren't the best choice for a busy family.

wish there was a neither button. And this isnt true at all. Because if it was, then why are people allergic to animals, like me? If it was really good for your health.

allergies are an unhealthy response to naturally occurring substances. It means you are not health and has nothing what so ever to do with the animal.

I've had both. Now I have cats. But,my cats were leash trained. And YES---I had 3 acres we walked thru. And we walked in the vet's when they had to go. It's all in the training. I leash trained my cats as far back as the seventies. They even had little booties to wear on their feet in the winter time, when we went walking. They also stayed out side on leashes during the day for hours in nice weather. They did every thing my dogs did and more.
