'Strip for Likes' Campaign: OK or No Way?

This could be the beginning of a dangerous trend. The Amsterdam branch of fashion brand, Stüssy, is encouraging fans to click the "like" button on photos of a sexy model on their Facebook page. The more "likes" a photo receives, the more clothes the heavily dressed model in the photo will take off. In other words, this chick is digitally stripping for "likes."

strip for likes

Is the campaign clever? Without a doubt. Degrading to women? Some says yes. Plus, as some point out, it could be in violation of Facebook’s Terms of Service. Facebook’s promotional guidelines read, "You must not use Facebook features or functionality, such as the Like button, as a voting mechanism for a promotion." What do you think of the "strip for likes" campaign? Is it a genius way to get clicks and likes? Or just plain tacky?

This shows how low society has sunk. What happened to self-respect? Apparently it's just about dead.

There is a world of difference between taking pleasure in the appreciation of the female form,(an activity I predict I will enjoy forever) and being a poster boy for the Male Gaze. Part of the job of the mind is to objectify, to simplify complexity so that pathways to action are more readily available - a handy tool when your physical survival is threatened. However, when we encounter situations that do not threaten our survival, then reducing any piece of the universe to merely one of it's aspects is less than beautiful, usually thoughtless, often dangerous, and sometimes cruel. I point no finger without appreciating that whenever I do, that hand of mine has four other fingers pointing back at me. Nevertheless, when I consider this Ad Campaign within the many contexts that come to mind quickly, i must vote an entusiastic "No Way"."

Would you rather she do it in a club? Where those same pigs could watch her in person? I think this is safer...for the girls anyway.

Just from a marketing (brand exposure) position the idea is clever. Even if Facebook stops the campaign Stüssy already has a bunch of free publicity. If this goes on I seriously doubt the model will ever expose much. Lingerie models routinely walk down runways barely covered. Any kid can find pictures of women in bikinis and underwear online. Each layer on Stüssy's model is simply more clothing to show off. Even if she loses all, her pose likely will be quite unrevealing.

the top opinion at the moment is "This shows how low society has sunk. What happened to self-respect? Apparently it's just about dead."
seriously people it is an advertising campaign and a good one at that.
its a brilliant way to get people to notice your brand (that makes everything from ski wear to underwear) and to show them everything that you are making.
it isn't some desperate teenage girl who is teling people that the more likes she gets the more of her the world is going to see, and the girl in this ad is payed exorbitant amounts of money to do this and she will NEVER be naked in this ad.

i APPLAUD the agency that came up with this ad it is simply brilliant.

I think it's kind of cool. As long as it's more for artistic revealing rather than skanky revealing. I think if it gets down to the bare bum, the model will use their modeling to pose in such a way that they are not showing the goods, of course.

    EDIT:
I'd also like to put it out there that there are people, average Joe's and Jane's that post FAR worse and inappropriate photos of themselves where children can see as well, but it is not professional, just whoring around.

I guess I don't understand what "likes" are all about... why they're so desirable, and all. I'lll just stick with "NO WAY" because it's Facebook, and I'm tired of hearing about it everywhere on the net.
