it depends. there is a difference between being super strict and restraining your kids from having their own life and from teaching them from and wrong.

Imo the best parents empower their children in a secure, structured, loving environment. Strictness alone doesn't help children think, analyze, or develop good judgment.

But... to the extent that "being strict" means being consistently firm and on top of the job, it's definitely better. Kids don't need their parents to be their pals

Strict parents does a rebellious child make. A strict upbringing usually causes kids to rebel in any way they see fit.

You can be too strict or too soft. You have to start as soon as they are able to understand, what is right or wrong, yes or no. They will learn what ever you teach them. Just as a child learns religion from their parents and about their heritage, they will also learn what is right or wrong. Kids are like clay, you mold them into who they will be. Ppl tell me all the time i did an excellent job raising my 2 sons.

As soon as they move out they are going to do everything they couldn't and just turn crazy but not strict enough theyll just be crazy sooner it needs a good balance. But it all depends on the kid and how they react to certian things those are just the things iv witnessed so i think that.

First you have to define strict. If they're so strict that it's actually abusive, then no. While I definitely believe in sensible, consistent boundaries and rules for children, it seems that parents also have to know when to loosen their grip a little.

False, exaggerated permissive vs. strict dichotomies are intellectually lazy, intellectually dishonest and highly dysfunctional on both ends.

Having discipline is good, but having overly strict parents that act as if they are infallible seems to lead to rather poor conditions--it also depends on the nation as a whole I suppose.

Responsible parents that know how to be patient loving caring PARENTS instead of just idiot friends; who know how to use reason as much as is humanly possible before actually applying forceful measures, is exactly what this country needs a hell of a lot more of today.

I've had friends growing up with strict parents. Know what they are now? Alcoholics, druggies, parents of illegitimate children....

Honestly they can get on your nerves, but really they mean well..unless they are those parents who won't even let you watch like cartoon network, or like disney channel (when you are 13, yes my friend is like that, and it really sucks. )

Moderation is the key. Too strict is not good. Too lenient is even worse. Kids need to test their boundries and parenting is a hard, scary job these days. Let your kids know you love them. Ask questions and check up on them. Stay married. The best gift a parent can give their child is a stable marriage.

It depends on the actions of the children. If they're good, then the parents shouldn't be so strict, but discipline them when they need it, and teach them right from wrong. But if the children are misbehaving, and somewhat rebellious, then they need very strict parents.

Damn, I should have hit "depends."

I mean, there are some ridiculously strict parents... like Foot Loose minister level strict... that isn't good parenting, IMO.

I sometimes wish my parents had been a little more strict with me, then I could have avoided some of the pitfalls in life that parents should be teaching their children about. But, no use crying over spilt milk. :)
