Finally, at long last, a supermarket that can cater to the condiment-loving, beer-swilling, BBQ-potato-chip-eating tendencies of men. I'm sure there won't be any broccoli quiche or fresh fruit in this "man aisle." Is it a good idea to have a "man aisle" at the grocery store for shopping-challenged dudes? Or is it just perpetuating the nutritionally challenged, neanderthal-male stereotype?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
From condoms to steak sauce, New York City dudes can shop for everything they need at the city's first “man aisle” — a portion of an Upper West Side grocery store dedicated just to them.

This is just like giving every kid a trophy, it takes away the incentive to make one's self better. We're guys, not idiots, we know where to find the beer, chips, and M&Ms.; Hell, we could probably even find powdered sugar, flour, and vanilla if you asked us nice enough.

We are male, but that doesn't make us stupid. I won't get confused trying the find a bag of chips at the store and walk out in a temper tantrum. It's sort of offensive. It would be like putting a picture of shoes on a street sign to "help women drive."

    Seriously people? lol
  • nicesteve 2012/07/28 07:14:49
What a bunch of hooey! Are us men really that crazy? Are most women really smarter
than us? While there are always some exceptions, for the majority of us the answear is a
resounding NO! Men in general are plain and simply NOT that helpless nor that stupid.
  • Manwé 2012/07/28 06:13:59
If they want to have such an aisle, fine - but most male shoppers are not this challenged.
  • Simmysimfreak 2012/07/28 06:10:08
random... why not just... u know go thru the entire super market looking for what you want like everyone else?

Rather sexist isn't it? Besides, not all men are like they presume.

Are other men too lazy to find these items in the store? Plus I never heard of this before. Stereotypes should die like many other negative things.

I can't comprehend the amount of stupidity this idea exudes.

I recall not too long ago seeing a article about parking spaces and how bigger ones were going to women, in Germany if I recall correctly. I also specifically remember this being deemed "sexist" by inferring that women could not park, yet when a grocery store creates a "Man Aisle" complete with all the stereotypical dietary trapping of "men" no one bats a eye? Is this not inferring that men are idiots incapable of A.) making healthy dietary choices B.) finding items they like(for better or worse) in a traditionally arranged setting? Is this not "sexism"? Is this not reinforcing a stereotype to which men are to adhere to lest the risk having their "Man Card" taken away? Is this not a instance of men too being subject sociotical pressures to behave in a certain fashion or else face social alienation? I hope that someone will anwser these questions and prove to me that we're not really the idiots this poll seems to indicate we are.

    Indeed this is the case.
It is obvious that certain powers are interested in alienating "types" of people for some reason.
It is done to those without the most. Black, white, asian, indian, miscelanean, men and women. Everyone is suppressed by these stereotypes so long as they don't have the power to control the creation of said stereotypes.
It can be argued that some folks are aimed at more often, perhaps minorities and women, but there is no denying that oftentimes "advatnaged" people are not quite as advantaged as they seem.

Or maybe the store is trying to appeal to a certain market, like men who want to grab their goodies and go.

  • shywink Sew 2012/07/29 17:06:25
And for the record, I also believe that the seperate parking space for women is also both sexist and stupid.

We keep talking about gender quality and stereotypes, yet here we are making an aisle just for men.

  • hasher 2012/07/28 00:28:31
this reminds me of most carryouts. any guy can go into a carryout and buy the same stuff. and carryouts have cigarretes too.
  • Georgia50 2012/07/28 00:19:35
If the man aisle is anything other than a cash register at the curb for milk, bread, eggs and some other basics, it's a fail. I'm never there for more than 10 items, and I hate walking a half mile to get the shopping done.
  • XCloudPandaX 2012/07/28 00:02:06
    i see chips ahoy....and beef jerky...D:
    my TWO favorite foods...!

  • magdalena.nix 2012/07/27 22:26:11
For the marketing purposes yes it is a good idea. I can't imagine any guy not stopping and purchasing a few items from those shelves to be honest. Or even if not purchasing, at least stopping and thinking "Do I need any of those things at home? Probably."
  • Bigchange 2012/07/27 22:23:28

  • brian 2012/07/27 22:12:26
Do they have Tampax for the Married man? They should have fun with this and put motor oil next to the beer, or Viagra on sale, get free set of jumper cables. Plumbers helper $5.95 get free bag of Doritos. Men need not just shop there, but what a novelty.
  • melissa 2012/07/27 22:07:50
For some/most men this is heaven for them without the stress, but for us women we have to pick and chose the right item that is best for us.
  • overdog001 2012/07/27 21:33:42
If you're "shopping challenged", that's a nice way of saying you're an idiot. You don't deserve peanuts.
  • Royo 2012/07/27 21:21:17
If I need to find something, I will find it on my own. I don't need a specific aisle.

Picked 'Huh?' cuz there was no better on the fence response.

On one hand, the man aisle is great, mainly because of the convenience and not just for men, but anyone who just wants to find the munchies and beer quick before the game starts. I mean, do we seriously believe that men are the only ones who are gonna snack and drink beer while the game is on?

On the other hand, really nothing more than the name promotes the useless stereotype that men have these days. It's kind of demeaning that the article is written to point out that it's the "'man aisle' at the grocery store for shopping-challenged dudes" come on, not all dudes are shopping-challenged.
