The number of people dying from suicide has drastically increased, while car accident deaths haven lessened, making suicide the leading cause of injury death.

The results were compiled using National Centre for Health Statistics data gathered from 2000 to 2009.

Researchers noted a 25 per cent decrease in car accident deaths, medicalxpress.com reported, while deaths from falls rose 71 per cent, from poisoning 128 per cent and from suicide 15 per cent.

Previous research has suggested that suicide rates go up during recessions and times of economic crisis.

Obama has caused the rift between the haves and the have nots. Divided the country racially and is doing his best to destroy the Economy. This is no different from the " depression" where there were many that jumped from NY skyscrapers because they lost all of their money. Same thing here . The weak minded will always be depressed because of these issues. Some of us just are blessed with a strong backbone.

NO, the people of America have done that by their constant bitching and complaining and their total lack of support of the government.

No one is to blame for the mental state of others, every individual is responsible for their own mental health. If people do not have a strong will to live and are unable to maintain their own stability then they alone are to blame. You cannot blame some one who has not even met them for their behavior. No one blamed the president during the Great Depression for the suicide rate then, there is no reason to blame the president now either.

I'm not surprised that the number of suicides has increased because of all the problems facing individuals today. Ask anyone who has been around for awhile, and they'll tell you that they cannot recall a time when things were as bleak in America as they are today. I guess seeing that the number of people committing suicide is greater than those dying in car accidents, puts the statistics in a perspective people can relate to more easily. I wonder if we're to the point, yet, when some American car manufacturer will publish an advertisement claiming, "You're more likely to kill yourself, than to die in one of our cars"?
