Spanking is NOT abuse. They're two different things. Period.

easy way out? back in the y,children respected their elders, now look at the schools and disrespect these days, what's your idea? a time out?

I have many very effective ideas, which I have used for the past few years quite effectively. Time outs scare the children I raised much more than a spanking. So did losing their toys or not getting to go to a friends house.

oh god...here we go with the time outs again,so what do you think should happen to people who spank their children? jail time?

Don't put words in my mouth. Making things up just makes yourself look like a moron. Same as the 3 separate replies. Bravo. And no, tone of voice is in no way verbal abuse, as it does not even fit the definition. However hitting DOES fit with physical assault.

    your argument is invalid

*helping* to raise a child is not the same as raising one. It does not even compare.

i helped raise a little girl and i only spanked her a couple of times and after i did that i held her and explained why i did it and she turned out perfectly fine

and i suppose raising your voice or talking stern to them is verbal abuse?

It is disipline if it is used correctly however there is a line between disipline and abuse which often gets crossed

It's discipline! There is nothing wrong with it. And sometimes if necessary the child needs a spanking on their bare bottom. That is also discipline. Child abuse is a different subject.

Teachers and parents don't have the right to spanking their kids. Or they shouldn't, at least. It's horrible and kinda gross. I mean seriously, touching your kids butt is never cool :/

It's not suppose to be cool. It's just discipline.

It's not discipline. It's not exactly horrible, but honestly it's not effective. I wouldn't care at all if my parents spanked me, but when they actually took away my ipod or something like that I would start to behave better. I know some kids that got spanked and they're worse behaved than anyone else. Honestly, if people want to hurt their kids to punish them that's just stupid and ineffective anyways.

As long as it's only an open handed spank. I think this answer also depends on when you grew up. We didn't have "time outs"

It really depends, but most often it's just unfair. A human's brain isn't fully developed until age 22. They can't distinguish wrong from right.
