My opinion? Hell, yes! Here, I just post opinions, but I'm not going to meet anyone here in real life nor share every single mundane detail like " I cleaned my garage today. So tired and bored." No thanks. I find it overall too narcisstic and a real waste of time that keeps people from connecting from others in real life. It's vicarious and I hate that.

The only plus that I have seen are the new political movements in the Middle east that have been exploded due to the use of the same media..

So yay or nay for you?

That's good to know that there are sites better than Facebook. I personally can't stand FB.

I've actually learned a lot just from SH I've learned about new life philosophies talked with people from groups I've never had contact with before got some new jokes and met a few cool people I never would have met without the Internet I think it just depends on what your looking for.

I like the real life connections I have with the few I know. Since I alreday work and connect with a wide variety of people, I've never felt the need to explore other POVs that are new or different because I already have access to them. SH is just a hobby, but nowhere as involved as other places. That I like; I can post my opinion and go.

    Thanks for your input!

From what I've seen of Twitter, FB and a few others, they don't provide anything I need or want. Some people find them invaluable for keeping in touch, though-- mostly kids, young adults and their families. Soldiers, for instance.

I think it's just a tedious information overload for most people over 40. People who are used to having lives offline. :O)

My ideal 'social' media has always been Usenet, where one can meet others according to common interests, rather than the desire to simply fill up 'friends' lists.

I don't even use that. I just go where the flow takes me, and see what happens.

The thing is that for the most part, an online life cannot replace a real one. It just doesn't. It can help long distance family to keep in touch, but they have a prior real life relationship.

You are right on! I am 100% with you that! I have silly co-workers that prefer to use such things to communicate with me when I see them at work everyday! It's ridiculous! LOL cats

That may be true for those who like it, but it hasn't changed anything for me.. For the people I care about, I talk to them everyday in person, not on Facebook or Twitter.

    Thank, Sister.

Big waste of time, for the most part. But now you tube is really interesting if you watch some of the videos. Saw one the other day of Eagles in Alaska. And some owl videos that were amazing.

I find them mostly a distraction from things that matter, a time waster, and rarely, an occasional way to connect with interesting folks. YMMV.

Ugh! I didn't find long lost friends nor relatives from it. I did find a ton of vicarious egocentricity! I meant to press the Yay button too. Double ugh.

Well, Sister, I don't why you found someone in jail, if you trying to help someone or what exactly. All I found was crazy people who tried their stalking from online stuff into real life. None were people I ever wanted to know.

Sorry to hear it. I thought perhaps it may been like an outreach to someone who wasn't a relative.
