So what IS the Frankenfish of Cambridge?

What is this? The bizarre 'Frankenstein' fish, which seems
to be part-roach, part-goldfish, and part-bream

Throwing what I take to be a large carp in the water, even if that's where he caught it, is probably illegal. He might want to be quiet about this if he doesn't want to get fined.

It looks odd but It was identified as an exotic type of Asian carp (goldfish) :)

Best way to figure it out ..
sample the DNA of the fish caught .. from multiple sites on its body
and then see if the DNA shows a mutation of .. or a whole new subspecies ..

After photographing the oddity, Mr Sawyer threw it back into Magpie Lake in Cambridge.

He said: 'I have shown the picture to a number of marine boffins who say it is definitely the result of mixed parentage.

'I have caught thousands and thousands of fish but have never seen anything like it before. It is a proper oddity.'

Dr Paul Garner, a fisheries ecologist, said: 'The head is more carp but the back end and extended fins and tail belong to fan-tailed goldfish.
