Snickers Maker to Get Rid of 'King Size' Candy Bars: Satisfying or Stupid?

Do you treat yourself to the 540-calorie king-size Snickers bar now and then? You'd better enjoy it while it lasts. Because Mars Inc, the maker of Snickers and Twix candy bars, will stop selling chocolate products with more than 250 calories in them by the end of next year, a spokeswoman told Reuters.

Mars has also said it will reduce sodium levels in all its products 25 percent by 2015, meaning you might have to turn to another brand to get your salty fix. Spokeswoman Marlene Machut told Reuters that the move is part of Mars' "broad-based commitment to health and nutrition."

But we see two problems with this argument: One, when you decide to have a candy bar, you aren't really thinking about health and nutrition. Plus, a small candy bar doesn't have any more nutrients than a large one. (That said, it does have less of the bad stuff.)

And two, shouldn't customers be able to decide if and when they want to treat themselves to a mega 540-calorie Snickers bar? Overall, it's good to see food companies cleaning up their act ... but sometimes we wonder if the food police is getting out of control. What do you think?

The last time I checked, I was an adult that was perfectly capable of deciding what and how much I eat. Maybe I'm wrong... maybe I need the government to decide for me.

Ok, government... What am I allowed to eat for dinner? What time am I allowed to go to the bathroom? Can I put the footrest up on my easy chair? Am I even allowed to sit in an easy chair?

Yes...they have very poor people...but conditions are improving slowly. They now have a SS retirement system for workers. My last trip before the divorce was 2007.

For it isn't just the food that is making us fat, it is also the lack of working out as well that is making us fat.

Yeah...I does not matter if you are diabetic or not. If you can engest enough sugar quickly enough to overwhelm you insulin production...once you blood sugar reach 450 you can go into a coma. Normal is around 100.

I say stupid. Because, if you're old enough to remember, the "king" size bars are only a tiny bit bigger than what the regular sized bars were years ago. They gradually reduced the size of the regular candy bars while raising the prices and then introduced the so called king size at triple the price.

As a side note, I used to love these...

I like the large size for the lower cost per ounce and either eat it over two days or share it.

Actually just thinking about having one large king size one once in awhile sounds satisfying. But it does look like the large amounts and eating one everyday may not be as healthy either, but honestly there are some people out there with really bad obesity that want to turn back the time and change the clock. But smaller portions are better, you may not see it but your overdosing in so much sugar, calorie and intake that may cause problems with your heart for the future >.< Oh gosh I can't believe I'm saying this but if the action is now and reducing its size backwards is enough intake of 130 calories to 230. Just think the giant sized chocolate bars you maybe eating right now can almost contain the same amount of sugar as it is in grease of a fastfood burger you may be served with on a tray or up and over if it was a big mac. *Shrivers* But honestly if people realize how much sugar it may contain in the king size bars, it will end up with the intial shock with how much they are eating can choose either to continue or make a lifestyle change. But it does sound like doctors are snapping the whip on the bars, and probably to as well chefs. Like Jamie Oliver from England to all. But honestly this could be a good start!
