The monks have never been against enjoying life (Buddhists Monks that is) only earthly temptations including sex, gluttony, alcohol and drugs. Monks are free to enjoy any physical activity like jogging, exercise and especially martial arts. Harmony with nature and the body through physical activity is a cherished thing for a monk. If anyone has ever watched a skater or a surfer you have to admit they have a kind of grace and harmony few have the ability to enjoy.

I am Buddhist. If he is a human being, he has the right todo as he pleases. I don't qualify that because he has chosen to follow a path bigger than all of us.

Shaolin monks spend lifetimes learning how to pull things around with their balls. I don't see how skateboarding can therefore be considered inappropriate.

Actually some Monks do quite few fun things in their free time. A few family friends go to a buddhist monastary every year. I believe they play soccer, and have theological debates, along with meditation and such with the monks there. Good people, been trying to convince them to take me for years.

Who's to say skateboarding is not a form of meditation? It takes a ridiculous amount of concentration to do those tricks!
