Since the Bush tax cut extensions increase the deficit, can republicans rationally claim to be against deficit hikes?

The tax cuts really do not add that much to the debt. The peal culprit is government spending. Handing out money to banks and industries. Just out right not taking care of things and allowing the budget get out of hand.

The premise of your question is wrong! Money taken from the taxpayers can not be counted until it's collected. Lower taxes leaves more money in the private sector where it is spent for goods and services, which in turn gives more people more money to spend, which in turn makes more taxpayers, which in turn makes for more taxes collected!

Because they haven't raised our taxes up to 70%, Democrats are increasing the deficit. Come on, flaca, you're not that naive.

EDIT: "It's an expenditure, not a revenue problem"...to a degree.

I am still of the opinion that spending cuts alone will not budge our debt fast enough, and that some type of taxes will have to be addressed. There are many ways to accomplish this, however.

If we had a Republican president right now you would not hear a word about the deficit nor would they be concerned about it.

we'll see. Republican economists are already talking about this, claiming that the repubs are stupid if they think they won't ever have to raise taxes. But will the repubs listen? Nope.
the repubs have swelled govt too, they swelled it bigtime with inland security. Who pays for all the staff of inland security? the fairies?

It's expenditures that increased the deficit.

Yes, that's one. So we agree, it's an expenditure, not a revenue problem.
