Sorry, the first time I broached this subject, I royally screwed up. And I apologize.
So, I'm trying again.

Because for me,,,,,that would be the last thing that I would ever do. I have no problem with helping out someone in need,,,,for awhile,,but not for a lifetime.

I've never been on Welfare. So I can't be 100% sure. Chances are Pride would F--- with me, but I wouldn't be on it unless It was absolutely necessary.

You didn't give a "maybe" answer. There are some that need to be on welfare for good reasons. There are more that are on it illegally and abuse it.
There should be a better way to monitor it and thus cut costs.

I did not give a maybe answer because I didn't think people would be indecisive when talking about themselves.

    Thanks for the answer.

I had once, after loosing the job, for one full week only 20 bucks for me and my daughter to buy our food. If she got ill and I would have to buy medicine for her ...
I would be thankful if someone helps out ...
Its a shame for the system letting so many people fall so deep.

I am sorry Doc, but I am a bit of a prude. I have been in situations where i could have used the help but I could not go for welfare. Things may have been tight, but we never went without a meal or a roof over our head..

    No sir
Welfare is for people who need and use it either supplement a low income or to help them when they lost a job or cannot work for awhile.

Nothing shameful in asking for help

    Now abusing that is different

Well i was young so i didn't feel different from anyone else
For the most part it is later that i see how hard it was for my parents being alone in this country and i appreciate what they had to go through and happy that something was there to help them

No, I would not be ashamed. When I was going to college and working part-time, my wife (who was working full-time) and I were struggling to find financial stablity. Daycare was outrageously expensive, and we could barely make ends meet. We got on Wick and a Texas Star program at the behest of our parents, who encouraged us to do so because of the fact they had been paying into the welfare program (by taxes) for so many years.
I graduated college and am making a decent living now for my family; and we are paying our taxes like responsible citizens. I think it's people who abuse the system and never try to better themselves that should be ashamed of welfare.

I would be ashamed to stay on welfare unnecessarily and truly embarrassed to have children while on welfare. People on welfare should be given free birth control or sterilization but not additional money for additional children. This notion had a self-righteous person tell me to "grow up", but we'd better become more pragmatic soon or there'll be very little to sustain our system of governance.

No one would be forced, but it would be a choice they could make to avoid having more children. Only the freedom to have children at the expense of their fellow citizens would be denied.

I'm thinking that no matter how many kids they have they should just be paid a set amount and that's it. If they want to have more kids then they will have less money in their pockets. Just like working folks. If you make a $1000.00 a week with just 1 kid then you should be doing great but if you're making $1000.00 a week and you have 15 kids then any funds should be coming out of the parent's pocket. Not us tax payers.

I hear that all right. If I could figure it all out then I would probably go in or attempt to go in and gut the entire system and rebuild it. Make it fair and balanced for all parties involved but I don't have a clue as to how to do that.

Obviously the politicians we elect don't know how to fix things either. The system is rigged to take care of them and lawyers. Ours is more of a plutocracy than a democracy, so far.

It would of course be a last resort for me if nothing else worked out but sometimes you have to swallow your pride and get help if you need it, it's either that or be homeless and possibly die.

I wouldn't be ashamed because I know, in my heart, that it would be a last resort for me. I also know that I would do everything possible to get off of it ASAP. I have an excellent example:

When I was younger, my mother had to go on welfare. She received no child support from my father and never asked for it. She was working two jobs (one day job and one evening job) and still had a problem making ends meet. Eventually she found a third job on the weekends that allowed her to get off welfare. Yes, I was a latchkey kid, but I knew my mother loved me and worked hard. So I worked hard at being a good kid. In the end, we both grew from the experience and I love my mother dearly.
