Because for me,,,,,that would be the last thing that I would ever do. I have no problem with helping out someone in need,,,,for awhile,,but not for a lifetime.

i have payed my taxes my whole life and so has my family for generations so if i needed it i would take it

i think the question here is..."if my child was starving, is it YOUR responsibility to pay for his food?" you do know how welfare works don't you ? Now if you care to send me money to eat, I'll give you my address. how much you willing to send me rocko ? or is it only o.k. if OTHER people pay for my stuff, but not you personally ?

I know I would not be on welfare without a really good reason. Eg if my boyfriend and I decided to have a baby, then he left me, and I was going to be a single mother.

But I would fight tooth and nail not to be, but if you REALLY NEED IT, and you are making your best effort then there is no shame.

Like my aunt, she truely needs it, and when she went for help they made her feel so ashamed and terrible, she is 61 and has a serious heart conditoin.

If I had to be on welfare, I know that it would be only temporarily, because I would be very appreciative to have that kind of help and there is no way that I would abuse it. I would feel so guilty for all the other people working and paying their own bills. I think most people on welfare don't understand exactly where that money comes from.

but it depends on an individual's situation. there are some people that have no other choice, then there are those that abuse the system
