They should be doing some form of community service to help cover the expense for taxpayers.

but like here there are ways to get around it, just withdraw the cash and purchase instead of using the card directly when buying cigs and alcohol.

The cards can be programmed so that cash cannot be withdrawn from it.

But is that something they would do, some places don't have the machine for the card, maybe it's different in the USA. but here cash is needed sometimes, even if it's just for the bus or to pay someone for a ride or farmers markets.

Almost every business here in the USA can use a debit/credit card of some type. So no one here can say that welfare people wouldn't be able to use a debit card.

Then I agree , if people can get everything with the debit card. Although I suspect those who really want cigs or alcohol they will find a way to get around it, paying for the purchase of a friend or family member on the card and they pay the card holder the cash instead of the store, for example.

Ah! But with my plan you wouldn't be able to get cash from the debit card! ;)

I mean the card holder buys for example food for a friend on the card and instead of the friend paying the store they would pay the card holder.

Completely impossible. The check has their name on it when it's cashed, no one can decide where the money is spent because there is just no way to do that. Silly Rabbits! epic fail

Issue debit cards only. Place money on debit cards. Program these debit cards to only be used for the purchase of necessities. Do not allow cash withdrawals. Done deal!

As far as it would then turn into having to justify every dollar spent. You can not watch all money recipiants all the time, how would you police the spending?

"You cannot watch all the money recipants all the time". I think the IRS would differ with that statement.

Yes. Welfare - the word means to help one fare well, to survive. Alcohol, cigarettes, strip clubs etc are not needed to fare well.

Before making them eligible, they should be checked , then paid accordingly.

Strip Clubs, yes. Alcohol and cigarettes? That's iffy. If they have an addiction, then definitely not. They need to focus on getting them help if they're going to ban it.

Because buying alcohol and cigarettes is not always a choice.

It's our money they're spending and it should be used for food and to pay bills to help support their family, not for luxuries.

It is meant to keep them and their children from starving and homelessness - and should be used for that purpose
