Should the state of New Jersey have been made to financially pay back Rubin Hurricane Carter for his long sentence and wrongful conviction?

Prime Time Lime 2011/09/04 16:08:01
As noted in the movie about Rubin Carter "The Hurricane " it was shown that he was framed by a policeman that changed the evidence to get him charged. In the supreme court it was proven that the police and justice system did frame him. He spent 18 years in prison for something he never did and did not receive any financial compensation.

There was once a case in the very same state (I think in the early 20th century) where a man (also black incidentally) was sentenced to death on the electric chair for kidnapping a politician's baby. I remember that he was told that if he admitted to the crime then his life would be spared but he refused and was consequently electrocuted. He was also innocent - so not much chance of any reparation there.

Yes, the years cannot be replaced, but they can certainly pay him enough to keep him comfortable for the rest of his life.

yes. Nothing can give you back the life you missed, what you suffered in prison and the damage to your reputation. The best they can do is pay him well. They should also have to make a public apology and put out lots of press releases that he was wrongfully convicted and is innocent.

It was a sad story and justice was not fully served to Rubin. He can never get back those years he spent in prison.
