if plan on suicide automatic go jail no question..because you're going to hurt yourself
.what more you can't refuse to sign paperwork for the treatment then you go right ahead to jail..that is two choice you have to made...better to sign paper and then get treatment ASAP.or denied to sign then go to jail...

Of course not. That wold be mean and cruel. People who do this are mentally unstable and need help. They don't need to have to go through a lawsuit if they survive.

After all it is self-murder, and premeditated at that.

But, such an offense or law would be unenforceable, unless there is an accessory, aka assistant, such as the late Dr. Kevorkian.

It's a human right, first and foremost, and it's a mental health issue, if it's not due to physical illness.

What's the point? You can't punish them because they're dead.

The point is to make the attempt actionable so that the proper support mechanisms spring into action when needed. Let's not get hung up on the word "criminal."

What a moot question. How are you going to prosecute the offender? 'I hereby find the corpse GUILTY of suicide in the 1st degree. I recommend 2 successive life sentences' lol

Suicide implies success. You can't hold the deceased accountable for anything.

For a suicide to have been committed, the prosecutor must prove the accused killed themselves. If the accused killed themselves, there is no one to prosecute since the death of the accused ends a trial. Bottom line suicide cannot be a crime because the criminal is not available for prosecution.

Attempted suicide, however, can be a crime and is or at least was in some states. Whether criminal prosecution is the appropriate mechanism to address such behavior is a tough question. Assisting someone else commit suicide can also be a crime and there is considerable debate about that as well.

If you commit suicide you still take a life, but there's no one to blame for your dissatisfaction of life.

Up until 1961 in England and Wales attempted suicide was a criminal offence. After 1961 people who attempt suicide are now sectioned under the mental health act, and sent to a mental hospital. Attempted suicide has never been illegal in Scotland as it was deemed unenforceable.
