In public buildings, sure. Outside away from entrances, no. Like CrouchingMonkeyHiddenHippo said before me, there's a lot worse pollutants outside.

I understand and have no problem with bans inside publicly owned buildings. When it comes to privately owned bars, restaurants and businesses though, I believe it should be up to the owner. If people choose not to go there in sufficient numbers, the owner will change their tune.

I am a smoker. I smoke outside, except in my own house or those where it is permitted. I do not throw my cigarette butts out...even in my own yard, I always pocket the butts and dispose of them when I get home. I try not to bother others with my smoking.

I am also severely allergic to perfume/cologne...I don't expect others not to wear any, however, or a law to be enacted. I do think it would be awesome if they didn't bathe in it before going out into public though.

Well, indoor public places, yes. But once a person is smoking outside, the risk of second hand smoke is negligible. Smokers just need to be courteous of the non-smoking people around them.

This is Barbara Streisand. I don't smoke and never did. but this would be wrong. Rather than have the balls to go after the tobacco industry and ban it, You pick on poor people by putting additional taxes on them by making a Legal substance more expensive and now we want to ban where they can use it including their own homes. Yeah I've heard the goofy commercials this month about the 140 million schoolday missed by Second hand smoke. Ban it!! Get rid of the taxes that this country gets or else leave them alone.

Yes for anything inside, no for outside. As long as smokers clean up after themselves and don't smoke right in front of an entrance.

Nope, Stupid in Public by all the liberal mind numb Socialists in this country. Government has no business in our personal lives, no matter what they think. There is no authority withing the Constitution. General Welfare has nothing to do with the Governments intervening in our lives. The Government knows it. The Congress knows it, and The Supreme Court sure should know it, and prevent it from going on.

I am a life long non-smoker, and a non-user of any tobacco products. That having been said, I hate spoking bans, especially outdoor smoking bans. Some of my friends smoke, they know it's bad for them, and, no, I don't nag them about it. I don't like the interruption in the conversation that occurs whenever they need to step outside for a smoke, but I can at least understand indoor smoking bans. Exactly how much smoke can anyone inhale second hand if it is floating OUTSIDE, dissipating into the atmosphere, upwards and onwards?

Outlaw cancer causing hotdogs at all sports functions, outlaw perfume, outlaw body oder, outlaw bikinis, outlaw flea and disease carrying wild animals such as squirrels and raccoons. Outlaw beer and bakeries, outlaw crying babies, outlaw insulation and glue, outlaw BBQ, outlaw dinosaur farts, outlaw gambling, outlaw industrial grade paint, outlaw nuclear energy, outlaw deer ticks, cockroaches and bedbugs. Do you feel safe yet or shall I go on?

no but it's gonna happen. it's funny, in my lifetime i will probably see cigarettes banned and marijuana legalized. what's next, the illegalization of perfume in public due to the allergies of the general population. "sorry grandma, but the smell of your perfume is offensive to other people in the restaurant and their bitching is more important than your rights."

It already is!! What's wrong with having smoke pits or smoking areas. You've already banished them from the indoors.

We shouldn't choose to give up all our rights - I recently quit smoking after many years and I wish everyone else would realize what these evil cigarette companies are doing to their health and their wealth - these companies are ruthless with their ad campaigns and their chemical additives - I do however wish that people would quit smoking on their own - you will feel much better and you will have a bit more money, but I do not support any more invasion of my personal rights by the government

If your want to ban smoking OUTSIDE then I believe we should ban ALL AUTOMOBILES as they cause far more pollutants than cigarettes, while we are at banning things how bout banning all perfume as it bothers my nose and I have friends whose allergies are triggered by women who bathe in their perfume!
Your statement of stop polluting the earth is interesting considering cigarettes cause less than 1% of the total pollution of this planet . Industrial emmissons and waste pollute far more. So unless you want to go back to say the late 1800's and start riding horses again. Think before you write!

"What it means for THEM alone?" Are you insane? I will tell you what it means -- it means being forced to perform unpaid labor because you personally don't like their habits, which THEY already know are harming THEM. That's what it means. uyour sense of "justice" is sub-moronic.

actually it is better than being place in a drug rehab center and been forced to undergo the dry out treatment.

now as for your idea what about how they effect others and what that means to the innocent people who are being abused by the smoker with the polution they are will fully throwing in the non-smoker's face? ... did you consider the non-smokers rights? ... have you thought about how the non-smoker is been forced into subjection of this fowl life threatening posion smokers are inflicting damage and or phyiscal harm for the non-smoker?

I know we could go on all day about this and for every representation I give you as valid reason for smokers to pay back for their abuse you and others like you will scream it's murder to us smokers. so plz I ask YOU ( pluarlly here ) as smokers to think about someone else but your own self for once.

Yes I know the government money hungry pigs that they are will not remove them from the shleves because they love the $400 bottle of wine YOU smokers are paying for them to enjoy. along with the government comfortablity aircondition buildings, over priced cars, and even the sea-side mansions they live in, not to mention the overseas holidays as well. and all this comes at a price not only to the non-smokers health but the smokers health as well.

so are you giving up smokering for the others or for your own self?..... and remember Doctors now days refse to provide health to a smoker if a non smoker need attention.

I am sorry to have to break it down in cold hard truth for you, it's not pretty and nothing special but there you have the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth.....
