Pretty soon, your local high school football field might be brought to you by Duracell, or Wal-Mart.
Dozens of schools across the country have struck corporate sponsorship deals as public schools struggle in a tough economy, MSNBC reports.
Schwanger Bros. & Co. Inc., a heating and air-conditioning company in Lancaster, Pa., owns the rights to the name of Hempfield High School's softball diamond — Schwanger Bros. Field.
“I think the funding is the biggest issue,” Jason Jesberger, president of marketing for Market Street Sports Group of Lancaster, told MSNBC.
Market Street Sports Group brokered naming-rights deals at Hempfield and 10 other school districts in Pennsylvania that he said were “looking for alternate streams of revenue.”
“We know we can’t put it on the tax base or cut teachers,” he told MSNBC.
Well, we'd rather see a big ugly yellow sign than have teachers lose their jobs, or class sizes get bigger. But is there a better way?

After all, (if they do get corporate funding), the corporations sratched the school's back. Then, it will be the school's turn to return the favor. That's not help at all.
The corporations already have much power (thanks to lobbyists) and government intervention. Why give them the power of molding the next generations as well?
Give schools independence. Support REAL Capitalism: Let the corporations fend for themselves and fight to the death for survival.
Ours is funny as hell right now. We don't need competition. We had that and that football game was ruined when that other mascot started a fight.
The human one looks like a moldy taco. :]]
