I'll pray anywhere I please. If you don't like it, look away, walk away, do any 'away' you need to do.

Some of you should be thankful that I pray when I do, oh boy, should you be thankful.

Well by law i am allowed to. In the constitution i have the freedom of religion, and the freedom of speech. Therefore i can be a christian and pray WHENEVER i want to. So if am at school ill pray.

Schools should most certainly allow a time for prayer, whether someone is a muslim or a christian or a jew or otherwise, they can pray their way. And for atheists, well, do some schoolwork!

where is the "yes allowed" selection? ... lol biased answers annoy me... hahaha

perhaps they should have a "quiet area" for those who choose not to pray :P

No one should be prompted to do so. Silent moments are OK.

It is still America... why not let anyone who wants to pray do so...if someone else does not wish to, then they should have that choice.. it takes no effort to turn you're head or leave the room. No reason to be offended...in America we do not force people to pray.. in some ways we ALL need it at one point in our lives.

I believe a person has the right to pray anywhere/ anytime they want to. No one is going to tell me I can't pray.

I chose this answer because this is what is now already allowed in school. I don't know where people get the idea that anyone who chooses to pray - to themselves - is illegal or something. What is not allowed is school, teacher or state sanctioned/organized prayer in public schools.

What is so hard to understand about that?

I think it should be aloud, I mean they are aloud to teach evolution arnt they, so I think we should be able to pray at school but be in a seprate area so the ones who dont believe can do their own thing, and I think teachers and staff in school should be able to join in on prayer

biblical references should not be allowed in school unless other spiritual guides are also used with equal time. the use of gods in school will never end individually - every time they give a test someone prays.

Individual, private prayer can't be stopped and shouldn't. What? A kid closing his eyes and praying is somehow offensive to someone? If so, they need a thicker skin and to get over themselves.

I don't know anyone (I'm an atheist and know plenty of atheists) who find a person praying to themselves personally offensive, or who deny anyone their right to do so, quietly, to themselves.

This is not about that. The people making the biggest fuss about this are those certain groups on the religious right who have convinced themselves and their followers that organized prayer was somehow done in all schools every day until just a few years ago, and that it has always been legal to do it.

I think each student should be allowed to pray privately if they wanted to. Taking God completely out of our lives is impossible. And I remember when saying the pledge of allegiance and having private prayer time was part of our daily lives. We didn't start our daily classes until this was done. We used to have a different person each week who was responsible for raising and lowering the flag before and after school. And we also had someone who was chosen to lead the prayer after the flag was raised. I realize that many people are opposed to religion in the classroom... so I think each should be given the moment to either pray, or sit in silence, whichever they chose. That way no one would be offended.

Was it a Christian prayer? Would your class have had time to also do a Jewish prayer, a Muslim prayer, maybe a couple Wiccan prayers? What about those Christians who not pray in public? Would you have a separate non-prayer room for them?

What part of the country did you attend school in? How long ago? I went to public school in the 60's and 70's, near a big city, and not once did we have prayers. We said the pledge and that was it.

This is a PUBLIC school....separation of Church and State, people. You wanna pray, go in your car and do it. OR, better yet, join a Catholic school or something.

As of now if your shoe is untied you can only tie it in your car because you kneeling to tie your shoe offends me.

Not everyone can afford to go to a private school. Not being allowed to pray because it offends someone is like not being able allowed to share your ideas or opinions because it offends people. Or not being able to do something ordinary in public because it offends people. (Example: Tying your shoe. Why someone could be offended: Maybe they don't want to see your obnoxious ass in the air! Or maybe you have to tie your shoe a certain way because the way you do it is ABSOLUTELY WRONG! ><)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. If this sounds familiar, it is because it is the beginning of the 1st amendment. Allowing individual prayer does not establish a law or force an individual to pray in a certain fashion. Therefore, it should not only be allowed it should be promoted. If a school abuses this by doing an invocation for a certain denomination, then they should be taken to task for it (even though this is not technically a constitutional abridgment). This one's for you Stacey. Luv ya

you do not expand the language of the bill of rights. It is what it is. This is not a living document. The same 14th amendment that mysteriously gave a right to privacy. My minor was in American history, and i do not like it being reinterpreted for one's own usage. Major being Aerospace Engineering.

I would put it to you that the showing of Al Gore's ridiculous movie without a counter point does more harm and promotes more of a religious doctrine, then a moment of silence.
