If you are a parent who actually CARES about what message your daughter is sending, then you need to have a long talk with the girl, and explain to her WHY dressing like a slut is going to give people the impression that you ARE one. IF the girl cares about her reputation, she will not need to have slutty looking clothes "banned". It IS the parents JOB to teach their kids the consequences of their actions.

For what? Teens have been wearing shorts before my mother's time and they dressed more modestly back then than we do today.

Anything under 16 strikes me as a bit young. My daughter wears them and is a very subdued kid who balances them out with a modest top. My only rule is no peeking butt cheeks. They really are no different from the shorty shorts of the 70s and 80s.

    1) Just "banning" it isn't going to stop them

    2) There's nothing wrong with them

    3) Teens have the right to wear what they want

    4) Any parent who wants to "ban" clothing is stupid and ultra-controlling. Yes, you're the parent. No, that doesn't mean you can disregard the opinions and thoughts of your child on any topic.

Like anything else... it depends. Will they be going to the beach or church? Do they live on the Riviera or in a Muslim or Mormon town? This is a silly question.... unless you're some form of religious zealot looking for someone to judge and vilify.
BTW... The correct usage is ......should you ban them FROM wearing shorts?
The way you write it doesn't make sense.

Even if they try as soon as they go out with friends they will put some on. You would have to booty patrol your kids... and that just sounds creepy!

Depends on the parents. I know that just a few years ago my parents spent a lot of time trying to censor my clothing--their concerns were based on color choice, rather than the amount of skin I showed--and it caused so much friction, even when there was no open conflict. Let teens express themselves and there will be a lot less drama, but do make it clear the sort of implications that their clothes give off, and be sure they are prepared to defend themselves.

I would hope that I brought them up good enough to not wear such things to formal areas or school. But when they are in their older teen years.. whatever.

Spandex was practically my daily clothing with volleyball all year round so nothing really seemed awfully short on me. But if it came higher than my spandex shorts, I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing them. I never wore shorts to school anyways.

If I can't ban old ladies from wearing high butt pants and horribly ugly floral blouses, they can't ban me from wearing shorts that make my butt look nice.

Unless you want your daughter to look like a hoochie with "juicy" or something similar emblazoned across her ass. Parents don't have to ban anything, they just don't have to purchase clothing like this and instead buy more appropriate clothing for their offspring to wear.
