Should our government have the right to censor song lyrics that it finds too violent or explicit?

As annoying as a lot of the Rap and pop music can be with their lyrics, they still have the right to produce them. I just think that they should be stopped from taking other people's music.

    OH pardon...I wanted- NO...thank you.

Here in the Czech Republic, the songs are violent or explicit lyrics banned. This causes children to turn to worse behavior.

I think the government should worry about more important things, like balancing the budget, cutting taxes, creating jobs, etc.

They can rate them and limit purchase to those over 18 and playtime after 10PM but censor aspects should not take place unless the criteria falls under terrorist threats, and threat of bodily harm.

But parents should. AND they should have the right to request that the government do something to censor them....THEN, after a "majority" have requested it, they should! That's democracy. One groups "freedom" does not trump another freedom. Majority rules.

We already have the parental advisory sticker, if we choose to listen to the music unedited that is our choice. Forcibly editing music is a violation of the artists right to free speech. If parents are again bitching maybe they should be parents, and actually parent their kids if they don't want them listening to music with that content. Monitor their internet access, monitor their iTunes accounts, pay attention to what your kids are doing.

While I'm no fan of either, I think it's dangerous to set that precedent. I think, if anything, it get wrapped, labeled, and placed with a warning in a separate section perhaps.

Performers should perhaps show some good taste in their music, glorifying violence is anything but. On the other hand, the fans of such musicians tend to move on in a very short space of time i would think.

It is not the government's job to protect you from being offended, or from getting your feelings hurt.

Don't like what you hear? Go listen to something else.

Don't like what you see? Go look at something else.

If we care at all about the environment we cultivate for our children, somebody has to take responsibility for it.

As we have an alien insurgence who's morals are somewhere in the dirt we cannot allow the freedom we speak of to be taken advantage of in this way.

In short if we as citizens can't conduct ourselves decently, a government agency is needed to enforce decency.

For a start Chris I don't live in Europe and secondly apart from each family needing a small army to be safe in your homes and on the streets, we have as great if not greater freedoms than you poor chaps.

Sorry...my mistake. I thought United Kingdom was part of Europe.

I guess it depends on how you view it.

We are part of the European Union, which was a trade agreement with Germany, France and the United Kingdom, now there are 17 nations in it.

We are an island and not part of Europe and we don't share the Euro the european currency. We retained the Pound Stirling.

Freedom and Liberty, this always sounds good until it's put to the test, wherever we live.

OK...so you ARE in the UK. I can understand you not wanting to be part of that mess either. I am well aware of my geography and the location and the fact that the UK is an island. One of my best friends is a Manxman.

Anyway, I can only speak for what I see here in the US and most people are not capable nor wanting of a free republic.

Albums that have explicit lyrics have a warning sticker on them, but that's not enough for some people I guess.
