Do we really hate our children so much that we would expose them to drug use/abuse, neglect, physical and sexual abuse and exploitation, domestic violence, prostitution, starvation, etc. These are the outcomes of drug/alcohol addiction: death, prison, insane asylums. Why should children be victimized by parents headed for those options?
With so many idiotic old fart rich fucks spending tens and hundreds of thousands of health care bucks to get pregnant past midlife, and thousands of Americans adopting children from abroad, it's about time we took care of our own unwanted, hated children in deplorable circumstances.

Not only are they imparied by drugs and alcohol, but are incredibly selfish and lacking in parental skills if they attempt to expose their children to such an environment.

    Yes

If they neglect their children and cannot provide food, shelter, and love for them, they should not be allowed to take care of them.

This is a really tough question! I mean, separating children from their parents is always last resort.

Not unless the parents get professional help with their addictions. If the children continue to stay with addicted parents and are abused or neglected, the situation should be closely monitored by other family members. Unfortunately, DCFS is overloaded and reports of abused/neglected children often fall through the cracks until we hear about it on the 10 o'clock news.

    Undecided

If they can't raise the kids, if they really are NON functioning parents, then something should be done about it. If they can do the job, but need help with it, then that's what they should get. It really depends on the family, and what is best for the kids.
