Movie theaters usually tell people to shut off their phones during a movie. Some theaters, however, encourage social media usage as a marketing gimmick. Do you think using social media like Twitter and Facebook in movies is a good idea?

If I owned a theater, social media would be jammed. If you want to socialize during the show, I will keep your money and you can go outside not to return. ;-)

How about if they just put these people in a room, have them stare at a wall, charge them $12.00 to sit there for two hours and let them talk and text to their heart's desire? And the rest of us will watch the movie next theater over in peace and quiet.

it is distracting to other people in the theater if i saw a movie where everyone around me had their phones out i would never go back t that theater again!

If we had vibrating phones and shiz in the movie theatres then I'm investing home theatre instead. Hell I don't pirate stuff now, but if its a movie I can't wait in DVD for I'm downloading it at home because I will NOT stand for cellphones/ipods/whatever in the cinemas unless its an emergency. And if so please leave the damn cinema first.

If you encourage using your cell phone to go on social networking sites in the movie theater then you obviously haven't had to deal with the irritating flashing bright next to you every 5 seconds during your movie -.-

I've always wanted to write a legal drama where the case was unclear and the audience would play the role of jury. Near the end of the film or the series, viewers would text to one number for "guilty," and another for "not guilty." The vote would determine which ending would be shown.

If I wanted to spend my time yelling at the ass who was distracting me with the stupid glow of his phone I would have stayed home. I want my money's worth of entertainment and don't want some idiot to ruin it for me. Do you want to come to a movie only to use facebook while it's on? STAY HOME. The movie theater is for movies not media socializing hour and a half.

It annoys the beep out of me when someone uses their phone the check the time.

Anyone sitting in any row behind him is distracted by a bright light that isn't coming from the screen! This would just make it worse!

I have to begin by stating that the business is and should be able to conduct itself as it sees fit. If a business wants to capitalize on a niche by doing the opposite of what everyone else is doing, that is a good thing. People who do not like it can buy a ticket at a different theatre.

Personally, I think it's a great idea to have a movie showing where all the "bad" things are allowed, just have separate theatres, just like smoking and non-smoking sections. If there was one like that around me, I'd check it out.

The theatre near me admonishes people to turn off their phones during a movie and warns that they will have a person leave if they don't turn it off.

I get facebook and twitter in my face every time I access the net, its even right below where I am typing now. Please don't make me have to come up with the patience to sit next to people facebooking and twittering during the rare occasion I go to the cinema.

Are you there to watch the movie or not? People who text during movies (with the exception of genuine emergencies) are generally not that interested in the movie and tend to make noise and annoy other patrons! Throw them out!
