Should More Christians Adopt?

Author Jason Locy wrote an opinion article for CNN claiming that advocates who don't support gay adoption -- he mentions Southern Baptist Christians in particular -- should be adopting children themselves to make up for their stance.

[W]e might compare the number of American orphans to the purported 16 million Southern Baptists who attend more than 42,000 churches nationwide. Quick math reveals that there are roughly 138 Southern Baptists for every child in the American foster care system waiting to be adopted. To say it another way, this single denomination has an enormous opportunity to eradicate the orphan crisis in America.

Locy notes that even some churches and religious organizations, such as Focus on the Family and Christianity Today, have made similar statements regarding Christian adoption, and the results were noticeable in orphan statistics.

Gosh. Stop preaching. I'm never going to be an atheist or agnostic and not believe in God. And i'm certainly not going to be convinced through soda head. Thanks.

What argument? I wasn't looking for one. I didn't realize I was supposed to prove that God was real. Because I have admitted time and time again that I can't. That's why it's called faith. See ya

That is a statement merely consecrated from simple human geography. Muslims and Hindus have the largest fertility rate and therefore are multiplying at twice the rate as any other population, whereas many christians in western europe and north america only have a 1-4% natural increase rate. If you think about it, a percentage of that 1-4% are christians. Meaning Not a lot of them are having kids, not enough christian population means less evangelizing, hence, even less converts.

Why should adopting only be a last resort?

Because I don't believe in adopting. I think that unless you are unable to have a child by birth than adopting should be the last resort.

Well, why don't you believe in adoption and that it should only be a last resort? Sorry, but I just want to know what your reasoning is..

I feel that adoption should be a last resort for I don't want to bring a child(even if it means saving their lives from a bad life)that could contamanate my birth family and the rest of the people around me.

Straight people can contract HIV/AIDS too. And just because someone is gay does NOT mean that they have HIV/AIDS. Educate yourself.

I didn't say Gays. I said people from out side the US. I will amit that I don't know as much as I should know to really know this topic but than again I am not going to change my mind about only adopting as a last resort.

If they wish to prevent abortion and adoption by gays, then they must have some sort of plan to provide for the children that will be foundlings and in need of homes and families. I would think they would be eager to raise these children, whose lives are sacred, so that the children would understand what Christian charity, faith and hope truly are.

Two friends of mine recently adopted a child. They did it because they couldn't any of their own. I don't know if their religious beliefs had anythingn to do with it but I do know the child will be raised in a good Christian home.

My nephew was a Set Director in Hollywood and his girlfriend used to baby sit Angelina Jolie's kids. He often wondered what she actually wanted the kids for...?

If Christians adopted Muslim kids that would be a good thing because Muslims aren't allowed to adopt kids.

With the millions of displaced children on the planet these days adoptions would help reduce the number of kids who are being sold as sex slaves, too.

That's a personal choice, not a REQUIREMENT. And for their information, some of us have no money to adopt or raise a child. Some of us don't WANT children. It doesn't change the fact that children need a mother and a father. Nobody has the right to judge christians who don't have children. Not all of us are in the position to do so.

It doesn't unless the religion's stance is that there should be no abortions as people can put their kid up for adoption, and also believe that gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt. Tough to take those positions but not be there to help then solve the backlog of children who need to be adopted, no?

I've told members of various churches over the years to "put up or shut up".
They put down unwed mothers, they don't think gays should adopt, they can't support abortion but, they don't seem to want to adopt any of these children themselves, either.
You can't have it both ways!
IMHO, if you're actively campaigning against abortion, gay adoption, or accusing an unwed mother of being unfit, then they should be willing to adopt and raise each and every one of those children.
None of them seem to have a solution for what should happen to these children but, they're sure ready to deny gays the right to adopt them and give them a home. They're ready to deny someone who's pregnant with a sick fetus, or has been molested the option of abortion, and finally they want to deny gays the right to adopt but, I can't find a one of them that are working on these campaigns that is willing to adopt any of the children involved in these issues.
