A 33-year-old Sydney fireman, Johnny McGirr, was asked by Virgin Australia flight staff to swap seats with a female passenger. He said he was approached and told he had to move. When he asked why, he was told, ”Well, because you are male, you can’t be seated next to two unaccompanied minors.” He said he thought the request was sexist and discriminatory, but was told it was the airline’s policy.

McGirr's wrote a formal complaint to the airline, describing his embarrassment. “As I collected my things from the seat pocket I could see people looking at me and wondering why I was being moved. I was red from embarrassment. I felt like I was being judged and found guilty of a crime I hadn’t committed. It was an uncomfortable situation and I felt ashamed which was a weird feeling because I hadn’t done anything wrong.” Do you think it's OK if a male sits next to unaccompanied minors on flights?

ABCNEWS.GO.COM reports:
A flight attendant asked 33-year-old Sydney fireman Johnny McGirr to switch seats with a woman after he was seated next to two young boys on an April flight, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. McGirr, who wrote about his experience in a blog post titled “My Virgin experience as a Paedophile!” said he was traveling to Brisbane from Sydney and seated next to two boys he estimated to be ten years old.

I was molested by 2 women. About 15% of child molestation is done by women, but the feminists don't want you to know so no one talks about it.

Why should Johnny McGirr be asked to change his seat, because he's sitting next to minors? What if a woman sat next to minors? You don't think there are women who do things to kids too?! If he's NOT doing anything out of the ordinary, then it would be rude of the person to ask him that question. That's so sexist, and the airline should be sued and disciplined!

Better still, if it is airline policy to NOT place unaccompanied minors next to a male....
MOVE THE KIDS! The're portable, as well!

Or use a modicum of sense and check it out when you book the seats...but that would be too easy! It's easier to pick on adults.............that, won't get you cited, for bullying!
Who wants to be seated with someone else's minors? Not my job!

I had parents who sat together 6 rows back .....while their child beside me puked on my clothes and my shoes! (Worst flight of my life! The stench!)

I signaled the flight attendant to get her parents.. and 'Mommie' whined to 'baby' "Honey, there isn't a seat for you with us!!" I offered to give up my puke-filled seat and 'Mommie' said...."No, I want to sit and talk with my husband!!"... Really, really now.......!

My shocked reply,"Then I suggest you sit her on your lap in case she has another "uppy"!
What kind of a parent doesn't sit with a small child on an airplane, if they are there!
They put their child unsupervised, beside a total stranger because they wanted to talk? Idiots!

All men are sex offenders obviously. Nevermind that stats which state only about 6.6% of the population(in America) has a criminal record and that most of them were convicted of drug related crimes, not sex crimes...... Now sarcasm aside this brings up a interesting conversation point. If it's wrong for us as a society to asume that a female dressed scantly is a whore even though some scantly dressed women are especially those standing on street corneres at the wee hours of the night, why is it ok to assume that men are sex offenders or can't be trusted with minors? Don't they realize that upward of 80% of victims of sex crimes are victims of relatives? If I as a male can't be trusted to sit next to minors on a plane then how in the world do you justify me watching my younger sister, or having kids, or living in the same area as children?

Well, if you haven't done anyting wrong there shouldn't be an issue. I was on a flight as a minor and was sat between TWO MEN(I'm a girl), and I had no issue. Just cuz they're men doesn't mean that they are going to do something bad.

Unattended Children on flights should have their own section removed from all adults in an enclosed soundproof area that is monitored by flight attendants for everybody's safety.......

Most flights put kids that fly unattended in an area to them selves unless the plane is packed. And not all men are pigs if they give the attendants a reason to ask them to move ( leering, getting into the kids personal space, inappropriate comments ext ext ) then move them or move the kids. Same goes for a women that act that way..

You're a man. You are NOT a child molester. You're about to take your seat. A child is there. Someone approaches and tells you you're not allowed to sit there for the kid's safety. How would you feel?

Thanks for the tip about Virgin, won't be spending my money with them with this type of customer service.
#1 He should have stayed and the children moved closer to staff.
#2 Upgrade to first class could have comforted his discomfort.

Why do people allow two 10 yr olds on a plane alone? Really?

I was allowed to fly by myself at 13. But the airline I took had a separate area for unaccompanied kids.

There's a big difference between 10 and 13. There was obviously no area.
I still don't agree with it and wouldn't allow it for my 13 year old.

The request was sexist and discriminatory. Do they think women can't be criminals? They can be every bit as criminal as a man. I know what people's perceptions of women as being kind, protective, and caring are, but this airline messed up and made a serious mistake implimenting that policy.
