Libraries should carry all books. If they feel some are only for adults, have an adult section but you shouldn't ban them.

No but they shoud put some warnings on some, like the book of Hitler or any book who express extremely violent ideas.

A Libraries purpose is to provide books, if you start banning books, what will they offer?

Censorship is wrong and has no place in a Library. Don't like it, don't read it. Worried your kids might see it. Watch them! Pay attention to what your kids are doing.

Any decent library has a children section and an adult section and any kid that really wants to read this book can ask a parent.. if the parent says yes.. and that is all their call... then the parent can get the book for them.

There was a time, and not too long ago, that libraries wanted to ban "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." Banning books is a form of censorship.

Erotic books yes, espescially after hearing that excerpt which was half bleated out. A public library should have decency standards at least equal to television news shows.
If they were banned for political or religious reasons that would be different. But banning a book from a public library which cannot be read on television no problem.
People that want to read it can still buy it.
However the president ordering a book burning and banning it not only from the library but from bookshelves as well I do have a problem with.

Banning it won't really achieve anything. People are still going to read it.

Once you start selectively banning books the end result is a library where you only have books that the majority isn't offended by. In that case, you've just lost any true knowledge in the library, as the content has been completely censored.

Censership does not belong in libraries. They are the core of knowledge, research and understanding.

I heard this story and was intrigued by what the censorship board called Shades of Grey, "Mommy Porn". What the hell is Mommy porn? Brevard County is on Florida's east coast. It is a rural want to be county celebrating with the City of Cocoa Beach, Melbourne and the City of Palm Bay all of which comprise to be Florida's Red Neck Coast.

Well....we DO have Mims. LOL! BUT, you did forget to mention Cape Canaveral, Kennedy, Port Canaveral which is one of the busiest in the nation, Viera. See....we're not all bad!
Besides, I don't think it's the "Red Necks" that take issue with the book. It's more like the prudish, older women. You know, the ones who preach in public but read Harlequins in private. They're probably upset because they can't be seen checking out a book that is actually being labeled as Mommy Porn.

I am from Central Florida and know the east coast very well. My sister lived in Mims. LOL :o)
It is not Red Necks that take issue with this or any other book. The people who take issue are anal retentive prudes and bible thumpers who feel they have a righteous moral responsibility to watch out for the rest of us who could care less.
What is "Mommy Porn". Still haven't figured that one out yet.

    HAHA...oops on the Mims!
From what I am to understand, Mommy Porn is porn from the womans perspective and includes what she would like to happen in her own life. IE Romance laced with hot sex and a little S&M thrown in for good measure.
Honestly, I did read the book in question and I didn't care for it. I've compared it to Twilight in certain ways. They all gave Stephenie Meyer a hard time for making the lead character, Bella, so wimpy and setting women back because of her actions where Edward was concerned. He was overbearing and dominate while she allowed him to be that way with her. Well....this book is exactly the same only this guy uses whips and paddles on her. Uhh...no thanks. Not my cup of tea.

There's no Ooops on the Mim's thing. I used to kid my sister that Mims had a better social class then those up in Scottsmore. :o))

Well I am glad you read it. I could not figure out the Twilight series but it is probably an age thing too. People who go on moral crusades are my pet peeve. These are people not happy with their own lives and want to make others as miserable as they are.

Amen to that one. I get fed up with all these people who feel they have a right to decide things for me. I DO have a brain and I DO know how to use it. I'll decide for myself what I like and don't like.
Even growing up, my mother allowed me to decide things for myself. Have no need or desire to give up that freedom at this stage in my life. LOL!

I've read Fifty Shades of Grey and, while I don't get all the hoopla about it, I don't think they should ban books. Besides, what's the difference between Fifty and all those goofy Harlequin romance books that they proudly display on the ends of the shelves? Some of those are worse.

Remember... you do not have to check them out, or read them. 1st Amendment allows for free speech... but, you don't have to listen...the same with books, you don't have to read those you oppose.

Libraries are there to provide books, all kinds of books! If a book is some how offensive put it away in a restricted section.
