A California county has begun tracking preschoolers with microchips -- and the American Civil Liberties Union isn't happy about it.
The system works like this: The kids get assigned a V-shaped, basketball-style jersey with a small electronic locator chip sewn into the chest area, California Watch reports. If a child strays out of his or her assigned area, an alert is sent to the teacher.
This would make sense to us if teachers and parents were worried about kids getting lost or kidnapped. But the core issue seems to be ... teachers don't feel like taking attendance.
Karen Mitchoff, spokeswoman for Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department, said the program is meant to allow teachers to focus more on teaching and less on filing attendance reports, according to California Watch.
But Nicole Ozer, the ACLU's technology and civil liberties director, questioned why the chips are only being used in a program serving low-income and disadvantaged families.
We're not sure this has anything to do with low-income families, but how much time does it take to take attendance these days?

And a wearable chip I could allow under certain circumstances... the second you start injecting people with tracking devices... you can just kiss freedom goodbye because you would have to be nuts to not see the slippery and inevitable slope with that one. And quite frankly, it does sound like the mark of the beast.
Mark of the beast@@!!! What planet are you weirdo's from?!?!
Not being a parent, I have yet to experience the terror and shock of a missing child, but I can somewhat imagine that kind of panic. If my future child were missing, and a GPS tracking chip was installed somewhere on them, at least it would help in a speedy find of my child. Granted, when my kid turns 18 I'd probably let them get it removed, but until then why not take every measure to ensure your child's safety.
Oh, and to those crying "MARK OF THE BEAST!!!!!1!", Really? I'm a Christian as well, but come on. When they start requiring one to be a Citizen, then we can talk, but until then, please just bide your time.
Finally, let me say that was no real compassion in your remark, nor did you offer anyone a way out. Christ is compassionate, yet firm, and He does offer a way of escape...forgiving sins!
Of course, if the American Civil Liberties Union has a need to take away Parental responsibilities, then this Union can raise everyone's kids. Just drop your children off at the American Civil Liberties Union office door (like a day care) and pick them up at the end of the day. I wonder how responsible the American Civil Liberties Union would be with millions of children at their door step all at the same time.
I know this concept is mind blowing, but the concept is that the American Civil Liberties Union should not absorb or take away parental responsibilities, unless children are being physically abused.
