Should Katniss of 'The Huger Games' Be Made Into a Barbie Doll?

By now, if you haven't seen "The Hunger Games" at least once, you've read that it raked in the third-best opening weekend of all time. So it makes sense that everyone is trying to cash in as much as possible. And Mattel is no different. The company's Barbie Collector is producing a custom collectible doll inspired by heroine Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in the movie.

katniss

The doll is "created specifically for the adult collector," Mattel told The Hollywood Reporter. That's weird ... how many adults do you know who are into Katniss, let alone Katniss and Barbie dolls? If you've read the books or seen the movie, you know that Katniss is a very tough chick ... one who probably wouldn't take very kindly to being made into a Barbie doll, thank you very much.

But "Hunger Games" merchandise is officially out of control. You can wear "Hunger Games"-themed nail polish, take a "Hunger Games" workout class, make recipes from a "Hunger Games" cookbook and buy countless T-shirts, mugs and more. Do you think Katniss should be made into a Barbie doll? Or is this strong female character too bold to be a Barbie?

If you have actually taken the time to read the books, this question would make you burst out loud with laughter and at the same time make you hate the media....

I've read the books. Reading for the 5th time. The point is Katniss is a Character. And those that are doll collectors would not mind paying to have a representation of her that is a little more realistic than an action figure. Either way... someone down the line is going to custom make a Katniss doll as a fan anyway. Saying no to mattel making a doll of her is like saying "no we don't want fans to draw art of her because Katniss wouldn't have wanted it that way."

Well sure you can make a doll...but calling it a BARBIE? That wouldn't work

They're not calling it Barbie, it's just being released through that line towards collectors. Just like the twilight dolls. Mattel is the biggest doll company we have in America and it makes sense for them to release it under a well known brand like Barbie.

That sounds like fun, and quite marketable.
Promos help with our national GDP.
    I say go for it.
The main problem though, is you should be 14 to watch violent films. Most Barbie collectors are under 14, but there is a loyal group of adult collectors that may buy it as an investment.

She's too bold to be a Barbie and honestly I think we all think that Barbies look nothing like the actual charecters and they're a bit creepy

NO. Do not make her into a barbie doll! It defeats the purpose of her character.

I could argue this both ways, but I don't see the harm. Katniss is a strong-willed, indendent female character, which makes a good role model for girls to look up to. I think this would be better than having a busty, disproportionate bimbo Barbie to look up to.

It wouldn't work. Katniss doesn't like conformism. The media would never allow that to be made into a doll.

Too many little pieces that the kid would have to have and promptly lose. If they went with less is more it wouldn't matter to me, but children+little pieces= me cleaning a lot+ not very happy

No no no no no no. The Hunger Games is much too deep, complex, gory and violent for little girls to become involved in. Needless to say that this............commercialism is the opposite of everything that Katniss stands for. All true fans would be greatle disappointed if this happened.

    Don't ruin Katniss.
She's a REAL character, not some fake ass with no emotion, which is what she would turn into as a barbie.
Kristen Stewert would make an AMAZING barbie, because, let's face it, so has about as much emotion as one of them._.

Why not... It would be nice to see a barbie doll with brains and brawn... Instead of these idealistic dolls that make it seem all women are really good for is cooking and mothering... :-P

That's why i have issue with this. What if the DO make her into one of those idealistic dolls? If they mold her into the image of the average woman, it would violate everything Katniss represents.
