By now, if you haven't seen "The Hunger Games" at least once, you've read that it raked in the third-best opening weekend of all time. So it makes sense that everyone is trying to cash in as much as possible. And Mattel is no different. The company's Barbie Collector is producing a custom collectible doll inspired by heroine Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in the movie.

The doll is "created specifically for the adult collector," Mattel told The Hollywood Reporter. That's weird ... how many adults do you know who are into Katniss, let alone Katniss and Barbie dolls? If you've read the books or seen the movie, you know that Katniss is a very tough chick ... one who probably wouldn't take very kindly to being made into a Barbie doll, thank you very much.
But "Hunger Games" merchandise is officially out of control. You can wear "Hunger Games"-themed nail polish, take a "Hunger Games" workout class, make recipes from a "Hunger Games" cookbook and buy countless T-shirts, mugs and more. Do you think Katniss should be made into a Barbie doll? Or is this strong female character too bold to be a Barbie?

- Tennessee3501 2012/03/27 19:22:56No wayBarbie is weak and feminine, designed to bring out the protective insticts in males. Katniss is strong and tough and appeals to men who prefer sexually aggressive women.reply
- Devyne Luve 2012/03/27 18:46:39YesIt'd be coolreply
- MichelleluvsRonWeasley 2012/03/27 18:43:29No way+2Okay, I LOVE The Hunger Games, but... Isn't this taking it too far? It's a PG-13 movie! And really, Katniss is probably one of the least feminine, girly characters EVER!reply
- Les 2012/03/27 18:23:47YesI don't see why not.reply
- ixithedustkeeperixi 2012/03/27 18:12:46Yes+4I'm a doll collector. I don't see any reason not to make a Katniss Barbie IF it's marketed only to collectors and priced as such. I don't think it should be marketed towards Children though.reply
- Djanet ixithed... 2012/03/27 20:33:09
y not children???reply - ixithed... Djanet 2012/05/10 18:06:11
+1I, personally, don't think that the subject matter of The Hunger Games is suitable for anyone under 13. Being a mom I know that the last thing I would want is someone to market a toy from a movie about a dystopic America where every year kids have to fight to the death.reply - Djanet ixithed... 2012/05/10 19:43:22
yes i see wat you mean and i think that as a mother you got the right to say so and your rite it should be like that bt theses day most kids action figures/ barbies are made up of violence so it seems like there really isnt much of a diffrencereply - ixithed... Djanet 2012/05/23 20:25:49
It's a sad thing to admit that violence is the norm and that the idea of it doesn't stun people anymore, instead it excites them.reply - TimothyBrianFoley 2012/03/27 18:06:31YesIn one condination only that Inspiries otherwise no goofing off herereply
- BlackNeko 2012/03/27 18:05:46No way+2Why??? That goes against everything katniss stands for!!! Shes a tough & cool person, if kids want to b like katniss they should go outside & stop playing with dolls. I dont think mommies want their kids playng w. a murderer anywayreply
- Raven 2012/03/27 17:59:33No way+3Barbie is the epitome of the capital. Barbie represents everything Katniss opposes. I think it would be a shame if that happened.reply

- xoxoxo 2012/03/27 16:32:20No way+3wtf? you cant make a BARBIE out of someone so badass.. thats stupidreply
- 2012/03/27 16:27:33No way+1Barbie and action figure aren't the same. Barbie is the worst doll ever created and Katniss doesn't deserve to be called 'Barbie'. Now, if you want to make action figures... that's different.reply
- magdale... 2012/03/27 16:43:12
+3I don't think Barbie is the worst doll ever created, but I'll agree with your sentiments on an ACTION figure doll. That would be okay I think, given the content of the movie/book.reply - Angie 2012/03/27 16:26:02No way+2I think making anyone into a Mattel doll is just kinda tacky anyway.reply
- MiinaNiemi03 2012/03/27 16:13:53No way+3No, because then it wouldn't be Barbie. It would be Katniss. Duh :-Preply

- Franie 2012/03/27 15:41:05No way+2Too cool and tomboyish to be a Barbie doll. Although, she would be a pretty good role model. Better her than Bella.reply
- mskathleen 2012/03/27 15:37:08Yes+1Why not? We need good Barbie roll models. And, it will happen, no matter what the consensus is.reply

- Vic~*PHAET*~ 2012/03/27 15:20:15No way+3I'm pretty sure Katniss would be offended by the very thought if she were real.reply
- Michell... Vic~*PH... 2012/03/27 18:46:04
+1She totally would! Same for the whole nail polish line. It's so feminine- not Katniss at all. It's just so... Capitol-like. Ugh.reply - Vic~*PH... Michell... 2012/03/28 01:21:44
+2I actually started to giggle while reading the article for that very reason -- the Capitol would make her into a Barbie doll and market "Girl on Fire" nail polish. The irony is astounding.reply - Michell... Vic~*PH... 2012/03/28 16:22:22
+1Yes, it really is. That seems like such an Effie-like thing to do. It's, in all honesty, a little stupid.reply - Darth Vader.BN-0 2012/03/27 13:48:01Yes+2Better than a regular barbie doll by far...reply
- Kigan 2012/03/27 13:36:46No way+1But she will. Pretty much every female lead is.reply
- C Z 2012/03/27 12:12:14YesWould you rather they produced more "princess" Barbies? I say it's great, as long as Mattel don't take "Hunger Games" to mean kitchen appliances.reply
