You shouldn't be able to clone yourself and why would you want 1000 people who look like you running around. Natural selection is good thing.

Wonderful question Michael, but it's not a yes and no answer! Because the question is this: Before human clones surface, society needs to come to terms with them. My late husband, Gene Fallon, and I wrote a fictional novel based on proven facts about the first human clone. It’s titled, Shadows of Yesterday–the first of a trilogy on what clones portend for the future. Remember this. They will be human, yet if given designer genes by doting parents, or by those seeking great power, they have the potential to distort, even destroy the values of humanity. But Shadows of Yesterday is not about clones – it is about recognizable human beings caught in the web of a frightening impasse.

Of course we should. We will never develop as natural progression follows if we don't take every divergent path possible. How can we develop Star Wars technology without going through what they did, or implied they did? We'll never solve the human-human-clone cultural-class debate without an actual human-clone in the picture. Future Mitt Romney presidential candidates will be denied the claim that he is a human-clone, or retroactively became a human-clone for tax reasons!

We are all unique in one way. The way GOD intended us to be. We should be satasified
with that. NOTHING should be cloned.

Criminalizing human reproduction by cloning simply makes it an activity to be undertaken by those who actively despise and oppose government and law.

To the extent that the institution of civil government is not an enemy of human rights - and we've all got our thoughts about that, don't we? - it should not oppose the exercise of those rights in seeking alternative methods of reproduction.

The only proper role for government is to provide a reliable agency for the exercise of our natural individual right to use deadly force in the defense of our rights.

    NOT to violate those rights.

Should government thugs be ALLOWED to criminalize human cloning?

Somebody come up with an argument for that, why don'tcha?

i wonder how many people who support cloning are fans of the Star Wars saga? Clones were created and used by the Old Republic and the Empire, as an endless supply of fodder for the military. Do you really think that wouldn't happen in real life?
I've read stories where people had clones created and kept in storage, simply for spare parts. Again, do you think that wouldn't happen in real life?
"Clone rights" would end up being the new civil rights issue. Cloning would create more trouble than it's worth.

Why would you want that, I thought we had enough people without making them through scientific experimentation. Its highly unethical.

Cloning is a step forward in the betterment of humanity. We are who we are based on experience and social environment, if we can still be that, but be healthier and stronger...why the heck not!

Allot of people posting are worried about overpopulation. But only the wealthy would be able to afford cloning, and wealthy area's are proven to have negative growth rates. The existence of cloning would have no affect on the 3rd world popping out a small army of children per family, so I don't see how this argument holds weight.

Take a look over the changes in growth rates per country in the last 50 years ;)

Earth is fast approaching the point where a naturally reproduced population will exceed the planet's ability to sustain us. We don't need to start manufacturing more people.

Not until medical ethicists can reach a consensus on the issue...which doesn't mean it won't occur anyway. If I were alive in another 100 years, I'd not be surprised to see it.
