I am appalled. The child in the article is only 8. At least wait until they are 18. What is our worl coming to?

It is ok to generate weird ideas, so the colective mind works and develops, but I think the proposal is insane. Why don´t you just choose the gender BEFORE conception? I have a blog with advice on the matter. http://superplanb.info/pregnancy

Sorry my answer is "Sure, Why not?"

I dont wanna wait till Im 18 xD jkjkjk

but kids who are under 18 who believe they are the opposite gender should be allowed to be who they wanna be physically too.

why not? If they have that feeling that they were born into the wrong gender it would probably be better for them to get a gender change early instead of having to suffer through all those years

If they are having these feelings of being the opposite sex, why not give them the hormone of their gender so that they would feel like a boy/girl whatever the case may be?

you COULD do that too. but you COULD give them what they want too.

It depends on if they absolutely want it and (if they are someone like me) who cant swallow pills it makes it simpler for both of them.

And kids who believe that can drive a car or fire a gun should be allowed too? Really, sometimes I think some of you americans are a bit crazy, or forgot the basics of life.

well theres a thick line between what your saying and what Im saying... Im saying something as harmless as a sex change should be ok your going all out in saying "Oh what about drive by shootings?" well its not illegal to get a sex change its OBVIOUSLY illegal to drive-by.

but only if the child has made the decision theirselves, and if they have been taught what that would mean for them and what would happen.

You seriously think an 8 year old should decide for themselves?

the thing is, even some teens cannot make major decisions like that. If teens don't even have the capability yet to see long-term consequences, neither can an 8 year old. Just wait another 10 years until he/she is a legal adult and can decide on the procedure.

but its alot harder on them. say its a boy wanting to be a girl, they can stop facial hair from growing and their voice getting lower, or a girl wanting to be a boy, they can stop boobs from growing. im not saying go right in and changing their gender, but maybe getting hormone blockers to make it not so hard down the road.

I can't EVER remember a gender confused child growing up. Seems to me, maybe it's the parents that are confusing the kids nowdays.

i'm tempted to agree with that. I went to Catholic school with some having 10+ kids in a family and none of them had gender issues or ADHD or other behavior issues. A friend of mine, who came from a family of 11 kids says there just wasn't enough time for one kid to have "issues" with that many kids around.

Absolutely not under any circumstances. Sometimes children get confused, sometimes they can be persuaded by their own parent/guardians twisted beliefs..example, I'll make a political statement using my child as the very tool. No child ever should have such a procedure. This should never be allowed ever!!!! If the child is a legal adult than fine whatever, but never should a child ever be able to have such a life altering procedure done.

Wait until they are 18 they have been through counseling about it. It isn't a light decision to make.

Depends how young. I mean, 8, no. But if it's, like, 16 and they've had those feelings for a long time, then maybe it's time to start thinking. Therapy, at least, would probably be a good idea at that age, IMO.
