Becuz we all know that they do. These Drug companies remind me of drug pushers who kick it on the corner selling crack. What Is the difference? I 'm sure that the mainstream will disagree with me, but if it is legal for these people to advertise, then at the same time it ought to be legal for illicit pushers too advertise as well. without consequence's.

ONLY DR.S, PHARACISTS AND PARAMEDICS SHOULD BE ABLE TO PRESCRIBE. MEDS ARE WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TOO TOUCHY, AND TAKING ONE IMPROPER ONE, LET ALONE 6 OR MORE CAN KILL YOU.

The first amendment to the constitution recognizes that this is supposed to be a free country where anyone can advertise anything. What big pharma should not be allowed to do is use the FDA to pretend their toxic crap is safer and more effective than it is, or to regulate and intimidate purveyors of safer, more natural alternatives out of existence.

Are you saying that "FDA Approved" shouldn't be allowed?

Fine with me if you are. :)

I think that on balance, the "F-Duh" does more harm than good, as does the current regulatory scheme in general. So yeah, we'd do well to be rid of it as soon as possible.

I think advancing technologies and social trends will eventually make the FDA and it's ilk irrelevant. Hopefully, it doesn't kill too many more people before this happens.

put the money for advertisement into lowering the cost of the drug

They've done so for a long time, and I've always thought there should be restrictions on what types could be advertised (maybe there are, and I just don't know what they are). Antihistamines are one thing, but drugs with serious risks are another, and I don't think a disclaimer that "youshouldconsultyourphysicia... (spoken at warp speed) is good enough.

why not? If beer can be advertised on t.v., so can prescription drugs which can be lifesavers (I realize the same could be said about beer depending on point of view)

here is why. It should be the doctors decision on what medicine a person needs, not a patient going in to ask the doctor if they can take a certain drug. The other reason is, it cost money to advertise the drugs and that cost gets passed down to the consumer in the form of insurance costs. If the drug they are selling works, then let the doctors determine if we need them or not

Why can't a patient ask a doctor about a med? If the dr can't explain why a certain med is best for the patient, he/she is not very good at their job. The more a patient is informed, the better a treatment plan can be aettled on. . You don't think drug salesmen drive up the cost? Or lawyers who say the a person "may have" a case against a certain drug?

But... docs in this country are indoctrinated (sorry for the pun) from Day One in Med School about what's "good" and "bad."

If you want to trust your doc, you have to know what questions to ask first.

Sorry, when it comes to your health, you're the best advocate.
