Why should I? I still work, and am a contributing member of society, and with a lot more driving experience than a lot of people.

No, but t should come under more scruteny. Perhaps a vision or vision/reaction test every year and a driving test every other year. Something like that.

Not necessarily. The responsibility of driving should be based on ability, not age. I do think people should periodically have to take the complete driving exam, written test and road test, over again.

The driver's past driving history should be the determining factor, not age.

I know many people in their 80's who are doing quite well, and quite active in their communities. In fact, most of them are much better drivers than many teens and 20 somethings out there. Most have enough sense to not text while driving at least. Besides, the government now makes most people (unless you are a government employee) work until they are 66, 67 or even more. So, if the federal government considers people fit enough to force them to go out, continue working so they can keep the tax money flowing, they surely are fit enough to drive.
With the accident rate out there and the age group statistics, and car accidents being one of the biggest killers of teenagers, perhaps the question should be, should nobody under 18 be allowed to get a drivers license.

Tested, as they are now. Tests can remove the 20 year old that shouldn't be driving, and let the 70 year old that should be allowed still able to do so.

Being impartial as a driving tester is probably where the issue lies. They have to be stone cold for it to work.

Not everyone ages the same. Some people should not be driving at age 40. Others should never get behind the wheel.... ever. It's not about age. There are many 70 and 80 year olds driving themselves to work or to a social event and have never had an accident.

We have tons and tons of ppl over age 80 driving in this state..we don't have buses except for the senior bus but it is horrible..they drop your butt off and don't come back for hrs..and a cab is way too much money...I go to a local race track and race quite often and i am known as the Drifter..i do it as well as any young person...maybe better..

Good for you and more power to you. Age is relative. There are 90 year olds who are younger at heart and in spirit than some 30 year olds. My neighbor is 95. She no longer drives but she goes dancing every other Saturday night. I am asleep by the time she comes home.

As long as one is of sound mind and body, they should not be stopped from doing anything..but the danger is the ones without an Alsheimers disgnosis that think they can still drive..

No but they should lose their license when their mental and physical capacity diminishes to the point that they would be considered as dangerous as drunk drivers... A.D.D. teens and idiots with anger management issues should be kept off the roads too.

I read that very article. Do you feel the same about adult drivers with ADD?
  • U-Dog Bibliop... 2012/01/24 20:24:34

Yes, any person who is not fit to drive should be taken off the road.
