When we say "fake fashion," we're not talking about mullets and Hot Topic. That's just "bad fashion." We're talking about fake designer clothes and accessories, like that $5 bottle of "Sex in the City" perfume you had to do a double-take on downtown.

People magazine reports that eBay is asking consumers to be more responsible about which accessories they're buying.

Sure fake bags are cheap, but did you know that buying them seriously hurts the fashion industry? On Monday, eBay is launching a campaign to raise awareness against counterfeit goods and stolen designs in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

To help promote the cause, eBay has teamed up with several professional designers to push a line of products called "You Can't Fake Fashion," pictured below.

Okay, I am insulted. "Hot Topic" is not bad fashion if you know how to wear it right.

I also don't see the point in this. Counterfeit is cheap, and there's really just no way to stop them because people prefer the cheaper and the sellers make such a profit. It's a no-win situation for the ones selling the originals unless people like to pay extra for integrity.

its not fake fashion. they might be fake brands that people are buying, but the style and fashion is relatively the same. just like taking pieces from a look and and adding some cheaper things like the undershirt you dont need name brand for.

As a seamstress who has designed many of my own clothes because I didn't like what the 'industry' offered at a given time, I know how much work goes into making a garment. The idea of paying a lot of money for a name is stupid to me. It is workmanship and style that should count!

Yes, I think it keeps our economy healthy to buy originals and perhaps then they will be more reasonably priced. Also, on ebay I returned a fake bracelet listed as real because the sellers didn't know the difference in what was real or not. You have to be careful. Thankfully, ebay returned the item and refunded my money and I wrote up my comments about the bracelet being a knock off. BUT, it was listed as real. What a world! Scammers everywhere!

On the one hand, it just shows that the only thing that makes something fashionable is it being expensive. And I think that's idiotic. If people can copy it for cheaper, I normally wouldn't have a problem with it. But, blatant copies designed to deceive and trick people out of their money are not cool and quite possibly copyright infringement. While the US copyright cases are ridiculous and over the top, I don't want America to end up like China where every little thing has a cheaper clone. I don't care if they crack down on this sort of thing in the fashion industry.

If people can get it for cheaper, same freaking design for a knockoff why not go for it, "fashion" is ridiculous anyways and far over priced...I'm sure they can take a hit for making crap anyways.

The fashion industry doesn't care for me, so why should I care about them? I will buy what looks good for me, and if I can get the same look at a discount price, then so be it. That's called capitalism and economics.

Why. If name brand was not so friggin expensive, fake would not be an issue. After doing a little research I have found out that it does not cost any more to make a Coach hand bag than it does to make a fake Coach bag. Yet the price is hundreds different. Coach is pretty proud of their name? Same goes for all other name brands. You are paying for the NAME the product is not always "better" as they would have you believe. Fashion changes every year so why spend that kind of money just to toss it out and start over the next year?

My stand is never pay retail for anything because you can buy later for a discounted price.
But there items that something you have to pay full retail.
Back to fashion, if it a good fake buy it I'm should that Vuitton is hurting so bad. Most of us can afford a Vuitton bag or wallet so why buy one. Go for fashion that fit your pocket book.

Thats just not always true. I just bought myself a dress and shrug by Betsey Johnson (not sure how big she is right now, but she used to be pretty huge) and I could totally tell the difference in quality of her things as opposed to something I would've gotten at WalMart. IWhenever I buy something with beading and sequins from walmart they normally start falling off the first day I wear it. Didn't happen with this shrug.
