Is it just us or did summer swing by faster than usual this time around? With August just around the corner, "Back to School" is the thing on everyone's mind. Well, if you're a student, parent or teacher at least.
It's almost time to swap bathing suits for books. And while you don't have to complete any tests or do any homework quite yet, we think now's the optimal time to get your mind juices flowing with our quick, 8-Question "Back to School" Survey. Don't worry: No matter the answer, we'll give you an "A+" anyway.

RS 2012/07/30 16:39:29No, sometimes it's a necessity.+6In the post 9/11 world cell phones have become a need not a luxury. I ama teacher and I understand the distractions cell phones can cause but I also understand the distractions computers cause and we force kids to have them. Frankly as both a teacher and a parent I say YES to cell phones. The big possitive as a teacher is that the kids don't have to ask me to go the office to make a call.

As a side note. In college, the note takers photograph the blackboard with their phones, and the photos are in the disabled students notes.
Hence I say ban them. I have a much better idea; use the cell signal jammers they have in Britain. These devices can be placed around the building and they will block cellular signals. They are not that expensive. We must turn our learning institutions back to the basics.................LEARNI...
Have we forgotten the days before cellphones? Or the days when a shoebox sized phone cost about 3000 dollars? And airtime.......fahgeddaboudit!!!
What are the odds of that versus the distractions in our learning environment. Our educational system is bad enough and you want to add this distraction?
Hospitals, schools and theaters should use cell signal blocking devices.
Perhaps improving our education can ward off future incidents. Pay attention.
Just have them turn the phone off during class times. Teach them some boundaries and etiquette.
Sometimes when our class was suspended due to heavy rain, the school would require us, students, to have a parent to fetch them, and my problem is they never know.
So banning during school hours is the only way, not that the kids wouldn't still get away with it.
