    I think that the concerns about smoking on beaches should be dealt with under littering laws.

    Smokers who leave butts on the beach can be charged a fine for doing so.

    It's outside. People can smoke outside. Although to be honest I rarely see people smoking at the beach.

    No. I do think they should not be permitted to throw their "butts" on the beach. They should take them home with them, just like dog owners scoop their dog's poop up in a bag.

    Not rude, just an example of how many are trying to take away all of our freedoms.
    You have a right to wear what you want and smokers, etc have rights. That was the point, sorry you missed it.

    I did and think it's wrong for RI or any other state to pass such a silly/stupid law.

    There's a couple in your state that already are.What I do wish is that if you choose to smoke be responsible and don't use the sand as a giant ashtray.Besides it's disgusting more so thoughtless to not minimally consider all the small children who play in it .

    They should be whatever the state's democratic process decides. I dislike cigarette butts in the sand but I dislike unenforceable regulations even more.

    I'm an ex-smoker, and they are pushing for this here, too. I am for smoke-free restaurants and offices, but I think there should be a limit to the state's hectoring. If the smoke is just an annoyance issue, let the people deal with it themselves.

    Or will I be able to make complaints about strong perfume/AXE bodyspray, noisy kids, annoying music, idling SUVs, loud cellphone chatter, etc?

    Prolonged or constant periods of inhaling smoke ups the risk, walking past someone who is smoking does not.

    Exactly. That's where I draw the distinction between indoor/outdoor and health risk/annoyance. If the state is to control annoyances, believe me: I have a long list - just like everyone else.

    I'd say no except too many smokers appear to be way to lazy and throw their butts anywhere they please. I use to walk the beach early in the morning and there are millions of butts in the sand ... It's disgusting

    That's not a government problem. That's a parents-don't-teach-manners problem. And, it's easily cured.

    If I'm outdoors and someone throws a butt on the ground or lets their dog mess without picking it up I tell them, loudly, to fix it. At the rate some of you are going, the government will tell us when we can take a potty break and what kind of underwear we should have on.

    Are you a child that needs a constant nanny?
