Ah ... the folly of youth ..
give her a cookie and glass of milk ..
wait a few years ..
and she'll wonder ..
why in the world did she think she KNEW Everything ..
when in retrospect ..
she was just a neophyte with a touch of arrogance!
(personally .. I think that a Senior Citizen .. great wit, sharp mind .. wonderful sense of humor and a good knowledge of the Rules of respectful discussion/debate is the best for management hires for social networking!)

Cathryn Sloane graduated from the University of Iowa in 2012 -- which makes the majority of us feel pretty old. And Sloane agrees! She doesn't want us old fogies working in the social media industry, saying that age makes a difference in social media expertise because of perspective and experience.
She writes:
TIME Magazine wrote in 2009 that Facebook began for youngsters in college, but it took their parents to fulfill its ultimate destiny. TIME provided a "Top 10 Reasons Facebook is For Old Fogies" including the insult to seniors "We're too old to remember e-mail addresses."
Does Cathryn Sloane have a point? Should marketing veterans from Madison Ave and Mad Men leave social media to the kids?
NEXTGENJOURNAL.COM reports:

She writes:
Sixth-graders who are now creating their Facebook profiles know nothing other than Timeline, and adults in their 40’s who are tweeting with their iPhone apps have no idea that the old way to do it was by texting 40404.

NEXTGENJOURNAL.COM reports:
No one else will ever be able to have as clear an understanding of social media as our generation, no matter how much they think they do.

And of course ..
I saved up all those "I TOLD you So" ..
so that they can be used for FULL EFFECT nowadays ..
(I mention DOS or Fortran .. and my adult children look at me like I'm from another planet .. )
Can't even imagine what they'd say if I showed them my keypunched programs from back then ..
That limit on the number of characters was sure a nightmare!
(my goodness .. it was my command of math that let me enjoy Fortran!)
These young ones don't know how easy they have it with C++, Java, HTML ..
it is with the test of time ..
the passing of the years ..
the life well lived ..
that the true nature of Wisdom appears ..
(something that youth isn't in a position of strength with)
what has that to do with Media or Management anyways?
The sad, pathetic attempt at sarcasm falls flat ..
wouldn't last one second on the Last Comic Standing ...
still trying that line?
Goodness .. do return the money back to the taxpayers ..
we don't like to see our Tax Dollars wasted ..
In a lot of ways ..
there are so many now .. that never have known true hunger, need ..
who have always had full stomachs, good clothes, not had to make their own anything ..
go to the grocery (instead of hunt, fish, grow their own gardens/canning)
There's NO Appreciation for the ingenuity .. the work that it took to build everything ..
Just because one is a bit 'longer in the tooth'
doesn't imply that one is .. out of it ..
(or in some way less capable than the younger generation) ..
For like many other elders ..
I enjoy continuing to learn .. have new experiences .. keeping up with the tech and knowledge in my fields of study ..
in a lot of ways .. the experiences of the past with the new tech now (that was a twinkle in our eyes) is exciting a whole generation of elders to continue to create and be productive well into our lives .. and even in our retirement years ..
