Shootings Skyrocket in NYC…and Cops Blame Occupy Wall Street?

~ The Rebel ~ 2011/10/24 18:22:31
While the Occupiers hit bongo drums and have sing-alongs about crashing the American economic system, the rest of New York City is becoming a more dangerous place to live.

The crime statistics are in, and they are disturbing. In one week this month, there was an over 150% spike in New Yorkers shot, a jump from 22 to 56 over the same period last year. Overall, the number of New Yorkers hit by bullets was up almost 30 percent in the last month as compared to last year, according to the New York Post.

To babysit the Zuccotti Park protestors, police have diverted important resources from the most crime-ridden areas of the city.

Unfortunately, the rise in shootings is just coincidence -The numbers include the record 67 people shot during the Labor Day weekend.

The number of police on the street have no bearing on the number of criminals or the crime rate -The criminals are already there and while they take advantage of opportunity, expect more crime during a power outage.

The above being said, NYPD is suffering from a rash of criminal officers, including rapes, evidence planting to meet drug arrest quotas and drug for sex scandals. In that light, OWS is the least of their problems.

what do you expect, the cops to magically split to cover the protest and still be able to patrol like normal?

I can honestly say that I've known a lot of hippies, and I haven't met any who were into guns. First time for everything, though. Nice to meet you, Frank.

Because the cops have to cover the OWS event, and leave off watching crime-ridden neighborhoods.

Occupying the streets allows participants to feel good about themselves, noble, as though they are saving the world. In contrast, it's a buzz kill to realize how little control one has over this life. To feel insignificant, like a little cog in the wheel, is depressing. How much more exciting to elevate oneself into the role of some revolutionary involved in a movement to radically transform America.

If you actually read the article it doesn't blame the Occupiers... it simply says that more police are at Wall Street, rather than other places where shootings occur.

Maybe when they apply for a petition there should be a fee charged to cover things like this!

it's a by-product of the OWS, not a direct result. The OWS attendees are not the one's shooting. Got it?

By the way - do you always just jump in and swear at people who disagree with you? It's exactly your kind of response that made me leave the Republican Party.

    2. The cops never state that OWS was a major part - that is the editor's words.
