We always wondered why we were supposed to snip the plastic holder that comes around six-packs of soda and beer. We know they have the potential to choke ducks or something, but why is it ending up in the ocean in the first place?
Well, it is. And this week it took a life. A turtle's life.
A New Zealand newspaper reports an endangered green sea turtle turned up dead off the coast of Australia with 317 pieces of plastic in its stomach.
A sad story, to be sure, but should humans take responsibility for their impact on the ocean's endangered sea life?

Rochelle Ferris with Australian Seabird Rescue says a necropsy on the turtle found fishing line, packing tape, lolly pop sticks, lids and a variety of plastic bags.
She said the turtle's digestive system became impacted with material it couldn't digest and the animal slowly starved.
A sad story, to be sure, but should humans take responsibility for their impact on the ocean's endangered sea life?

Of course it is the humans that are doing this and it's ALL our fault.
And just how would u go about cleaning up our water?
if everyone was a vegetarian we wouldn't have all the run off from factory farms going directly into our once pristine waters.
Do a better job of controlling sewer run off would be my first suggestion.
If everyone was a vegetarian and we get rid off farms, lots of people would soon starve to death. Ironically obama's new policies are going to destroy the family farms and leave us with nothing but corporate farms. I guess he doesn't care about the environment and the common man as much as people think.
You cant tell me that all of the rubbish in our oceans are from cats and rabbits!!!!!!
They dont go making plastic and metal etc and go chuck it in the sea!!
yea.....I feel sorry for all the other animals in the world, having to compete against humans - the worst living thing in the world :)
I just dont understand it.... If its your trash... ....take care of it
