Scripps National Spelling Bee: Do you consider yourself a good speller?

In an internet era where seemingly every other word is misspelled, it's comforting to know that there are kids every year who will never mix up "your" and "you're". Yup, it's time for the Scripps National Spelling Bee where eighth-grade students like Mouctika L. Paluri are frustrated when they can't spell "laeotropous" (which I think means "coiled in a leftward direction"). The Scripps National Spelling Bee is in its 63rd year and the excitement and coverage of the event has not waned. If you want a movie recommendation, you should check out "Spellbound", an entertaining documentary on the Scripps spelling bee.
Do you think you have good spelling skills? Of course, this could just be like asking people whether they think they are above-average drivers: Most people will say yes (not possible for the majority to be above-average, at least median-wise) because many people overestimate their skills.

Linnaeus 2009/05/28 18:29:23Put me on the Scripps National Spelling Bee anyday. My spelling skills are to...

When I type on the internet, I always spell everything how it should be spelled and I don't even have spell check on this browser.
What drives me nuts are the Internet Based "Spell-Nannies" that refuse to learn TECHNICAL TERMS. This means, I'll use a term on a WEB Forum I really do know how to spell, and the computerized "Spell-Checker" won't even recognize it... I'll verify the spelling on Google, and the "Spell-Nanny" will just be plan wrong. Nothing can be more frustrating that a continuous incorrect correction.
