Scientists Create Birth Control Pill for Men: Genius or Unnecessary?

A study published Friday from the journal Cell describes an experimental drug that is effectively a birth control pill... for men. Well, male mice, for now. When this drug was tested daily on male mice, it "reduced their sperm count so much that the animals were rendered effectively infertile. When the drug was stopped, sperm counts and quality were restored and the mice were able to sire healthy offspring."

In a commentary that accompanies the study, Dr. William Bremner of the University of Washington in Seattle shares their optimism. He called the drug "an exciting new approach to male contraception." Do you think birth control pills for men is genius -- or unnecessary?

contributing biological content ..
is RESPONSIBLE for any results (or prevention of pregnancy) ..
What would be even better ..
is if there was more emphasis on the RESPONSIBILITY of being actual ADULTS ..
and not rutting animals ..
(even the livestock doesn't breed indiscriminately .. )

I only knew one man who had a baby and that was back in the days before phone systems were automated. He was dating a telephone operator and she reversed the charges.

It's about time men take the birth control pill.We are all equal,especially when it comes to both Men and Women taking the pill.Us women need a break..LOL..and not to mention the side effects we may suffer.For you Men out there..if you take it,they won't garnish your paycheck for child support..just sayin..

Actually, what I was implying is that we, Americans, are on enough pills as it is. Every time you turn around there is a new drug being advertised with a side effect list the length of a novel. So what I really meant was that, no thank you, but we (as in men and women) don't need any more pills from the ever-so-trustworthy pharmaceutical industry. Was never a fan of female birth control pills either. Get it?

Morning sickness

Irregular menstrual cycles

Loose bowel and bloating

Mood swings

Palpitation

Depression (in rare cases)

Irregular vaginal discharges and increased susceptibility to infections as the changes in hormonal levels affect the endometrial tissue in a deleterious manner.

Tenderness of breasts

Loss of libido

Hypertension and changes in the lipid profiles

Increased fluid retention attributing on some level towards weight gain

Decreased calcium retention in kidneys leading to bone loss and osteoporosis

Hair and follicular changes are also seen.

Yeah. I want that.

Wake up one morning to find it crawling away? I dunno but testing in mice almost never results in good effects on humans. They need clinical testing, it needs to be reversible, and not damage DNA.
