School's Out! Do you think a teacher should make a student repeat a grade or do you think that's going too far and will only build up low self esteem and anger in a child?

    honestly, no one should feel singled out like that.
    though, in lower grades such as kindergarten and first, i don't see why not if they can't grasp what is going on in the classroom, due to the fact that there are say, way too many kids in a class.

    It's not the kid's fault. It's the teacher's. i had this terrible teacher who taught me nothing. he just played videos and quizzed us on them. Eventually it got so boring that I quit even trying. It was only when my FRIENDS told me that I should do my work that i actually did it.

    Humiliation is the best way to get a kid to straighten up and fly right. Taking away their toys, or making them stay home for weeks, does not work. Failing in school, CAN be avoided, so if you don't care enough to at least pass, being punished for your laziness is entirely your fault. Don't blame the teacher.

    Feeling shame was PART of being held back. You studied hard so you didn't have to feel that AGAIN.

    But then, that was back when people HAD shame; now it's always someone else's fault that little Johnny can't read.
